Cowher couldn't win with Noll's players.

After a night of heavy drinking Bill Cowher doesn't throw up, he throws down!

None of the starters where playing. But you would hope the backups look good playing. Other teams are not game planning and look more efficient. As we can use these games as evaluations, it obvious it's not working in training camp.

I know a lot of people would disagree with me but I would of played my starters in each of the last two games with the exception of Bell. Now, not a lot but at least a series. We have had a problem coming out the gate in the regular season looking sharp. Ben and Brown are looking good against our defense in practice. That doesn't say a lot. The speed of practice is a lot different then in stadium games.

I get we don't want to get any of our starters hurt but we have not done a good job balancing evaluations during preseason and getting our starters ready for the upcoming season.

People seem to forget that we barely made the playoffs last season. If it wasn't for a gift from the Bills or Jets we wouldn't of been in the playoffs. And if it wasn't for the immaturity of the Bengals we would of been one and done.

And to add we always start out slow for the regular season because I believe we don't play our starters enough. They need to get the rust out and you can't do that during a half of football.

My point exactly. Plus like I mentioned in another thread. It's not like we set the world on fire last year. A Bills gift got us in the playoffs and the lack of maturity help us move forward.

Every year some fans go through this in regard to preseason games SMH. Some of you dont get it and never will. The only thing fans should hope for from preseason games is that the players remain relatively healthy.

It doesn't matter if the team comes out of the gate looking sharp. What matters most is how they overcome the adversity they face throughout the season and how they finish. They had plenty of adversity last season and almost made it to the AFCCG. Hey but whatever makes you feel better.

You seem to forget that they had a whole lot of injuries to several key players last season and were a turnover away from possibly playing for a trip to the SB.

And you forgot that we didn't make the playoffs without the help of the Bills or Jets. And we only got by Bengals because of their immaturity.

I definitely don't want the injuries and should be judicially as possible when playing our starters but as Tomlin says, he doesn't live in his fears.

But I see other starting quarterbacks playing as well as there receivers. Now, some of them don't have the resume as Ben and AB but I would give them at least a series. Say, the first first and 10. After that then pull them.

Do you doubt that if Tomlin really wanted to win preseason games they could?

Jarvis and Bud are dealing with injuries that's why they haven't played.

The Skins have a great CB, who Josh Norman he will get exposed this season as a system CB. The Skins overpaid for him after he had had one good season.

You pretty much always have to rely on other teams losing in order to make the playoffs.
We had a better record than the Jets. Would you have felt better if the Jets won their last game and lost another one earlier in the season? Same result.
10 other AFC teams had to help us make the playoffs last season, not just the Jets.

You can what if all day. Fact is, we won enough games to get in and did so while overcoming a heck of a lot last year.

Yeah if it wasn't for the Browns losing all those games we wouldn't have made the playoffs. Huge gift by the Browns.

All I know is that if the jets won we would of been watching the playoff games. If we didn't lose twice to the Ravens we would have not had to wait to the last game to decide our fate.

All that stuff don't matter. Record at the end of the season compared to others matters.

And even with that, they took ten points only from turnovers deep in our half.

I think Philly tended to look sharper, and as a whole we looked sluggish... But there's a clear context.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone is legitimately worried about losing preseason games or saying they are as important as the regular season. The Steelers look awful every single preseason and it just boggles my mind as to why. Quarterback play is a big reason. Every team brings out vanilla schemes and, from my perspective, always look more efficient than Pittsburgh. I could care less what their record is in the preseason, but once in awhile, it would be nice to watch a game and see the Steelers actually outperform the other team.

Indeed. Outside of Arizona, New England, and Seattle, not too many other teams could have sustained that level of continuity without the locker room or coaching staff imploding on itself.

I seem to remember last preseason, there was one drive where Ben and AB came out, marched the offense up the field and scored like a knife through butter.

It was like: "ok, that's what we can do if we try."

    Then they left the game.

That's the sort of thing that would settle a few of the niggling worries...
