Don't just use Fields to run either----- let him throw short passes SOMETIMES------- maybe to RUSS:think:

Thats why you only play Fields in spurts my friend. Fields has actually better than Wilson over the middle of the field this year. We didn’t really run RPO with Fields much and I believe that is primarily how he would be used in the Redzone and short yardage situations. I think the threat of him keeping it and running actually opens it up for the RB’s. Its not like the first six games when the opposing teams stacked the line of scrimmage and dared us to pass. He did have fumbling problems and that is a concern but man he had alot of running td’s this year in the redzone. But like you I would really like to see him employed with Wilson on the field. I think you are stressing the too much pressure thing based on the situation. These guys get paid well and they want to play. Again if the reads are very simple and his role is clearly defined as in you have one or two receiver options to throw to on this play. If they aren’t open you throw it away or tuck it and run with it. It really gives the opposing defense alot more to think about and defend.

If he can get the center qb exchange down under center then I definitely think he needs to be in instead of Russ doing this QB sneaks. It makes no sense to use Russ in that toe. Fields, is bigger, stronger, faster ... why even subject Russ to that physicality?

I agreed with Ben on every single one of those when he said them too. I think almost all of those were from the physiological perspective of understanding what it is like to be in those guys shoes and believing they could get it done and that the issues were more on coaching, scheme, play calling etc. Under Cnada it was hard to truly gage any QB. I am not saying those guys were starter capable but I don’t think we got their best either under the circumstances. If you stay on the logic of Ben making a statement for those guys to play based on a psychological perspective and certainly understanding the psychology of the position then you would assume he would understand wether putting Fields in would be bad for both Fields and Wilson and the team and those guys feeling the pressure of having to do to much. I believe Ben can speak to those elements of the game and the position better than any of us here can. Now on the flip side of this Charlie Batch did bring up a good point. He said people don’t realize how hard it is to come in off the bench in the middle of a game and be thrown right into the action. He said the guy most likely was standing there for the whole game without stretching or warming up and now he is going in and be asked to run for a first down, etc. Charlie understands that because he lived in that world being a a back up QB. I think that could be handled easily though by keeping the guy involved more by sprinkling him in throughout the game if the ebb and flow of the game provides of r it and if not there is always a warm up bike on the sidelines and he can stretch and stay loose while waiting for his opportunity.

I know you get mad at this example but Taysom Hill does it with great success. Please don’t measure it in Superbowls. Yes I know they never went to a SB with Bree’s and Hill but my point is if you have that talent on your roster why the heck would you not use it. Even if it is Fields out there with Russ. Be honest do you think the opposing team would be more scared if Fields were out there or Van Jefferson?

It was a poor decision, but the throw was reachable if he had chosen to make a play on the ball. At least, he could have kept it from being intercepted. Wilson shouldn't have thrown it, but Washington also screwed up the play.

I can agree to that. :drinks:

seemed like Washington was surprised it even came his way. Russ missed him! Throw it LOW and it is an easy TD!!!

disagree. If he did nothing other than raise his arm he likely reaches say 12 feet alone. He is 6,7”.

I also thought that he should have jumped, was a screwed up play for sure
If you had a physical specimen like Darnell playing on your team don't you
the think you would coach him up for red zone offensive. This
is a mismatch that should be taken advantage of.

Precisely. The dude is a mountain of a man that is never used in the red zone. He has pretty good hands. This, combined with his obvious height, would make it easier to win the ball from a defender

so - we will disagree. multiple analysis online, analysts and my first take was it was a poor pass. 80 was moving to his right, Russ threw it high and right. He probably thought Russ was throwing it away, I did when it left his hands.

It was not Russ's best day on Sunday.

HOPE he plays better in games to come.

Poor pass or not he made zero attempt and looked lost. Russ did not have a great day but Lamar had a worse one :)

I said if You use them both at the same time like we did many times with Kordell.....I'm all for it.
Again I guess we will just disregard the whole pressure thing....like I , P. Manning, and Eli Manning talked about.
Isn't if funny that the worst decision Russ made in the redzone came after the coaches talked all week about using Fields in packages, and then the same with Fields.....the stupid slide 2 yards before the 1st down. It puts them both under more pressure than they need. This is not Madden, and they are not Wrs, DB, Rbs, and other positions that have been interchangeable throughout their whole careers.
Everyone keeps talking about T. Hill. They won nothing doing it, but they did win a SB not doing it.

Matters who you watch....Keyshawn Johnson said at worst it should have been a dropped pass. Again tell me how a 5'10 guy intercepted a terrible pass 2 feet behind a 6'8 guy???

Actually I believe it would be closer to 9 feet something, but if He jumps....no telling how high.

He couldn't throw it low...there were two levels of D in between, and if He did people would say .....Geez the guy is 6'8, and Wilson is throwing it low.

Mad Dog Russo said this week that Washington didn't jump because he was pushed in the back while the ball was in the air. I think Washington just thought like everyone else did that Wilson was just going to throw it out of the end zone and gave up on the play.

I don’t like Russ in there for short yardage and definitely sneaks, Fields needs to be used for this. I don’t advocate for every red zone trip. I do advocate for better play calling by Arthur Smith when inside the 10. This run on first and second down and then throw on 3rd is ridiculous.

If we are on the 5 yard line I have no problem with running an option bootleg with an I formation RPO and Justin Fields as the QB. I almost guarantee we will get 6.

His girth also, can you imagine a 6 foot 190 db /hell even a lb attempting to defend him?
Coach him up in some basketball blockout drills., these db's will have their hands full trying to get around him to defend ball.

Exactly, option at the goal line makes defensive players execute to perfection.

Have you guys seen how they use Taysom Hill for the Saints? He was last weeks NFC player of the week.
