I feel like some people need to read this from the stuff they say on the board.
When a play is called out, and You have multiple routes, nobody is telling the Qb where they have to throw the ball. I really don't understand where people get this Idea.
For Example the 4th down play. 4 routes were run. Yes You have a 1st,2nd, and so on, but that can, and will change by pre snap, and can change by post snap. Nobody is telling the Qb You have to throw there, and I can't for the life of me figure why people think this is a thing. LoL It's actually laughable.
This is why certain Wrs, TEs, and Rbs get more or less targets by whomever the Qb is, no matter that it's the same play caller calling the play.

Yea but many QBs throw to a certain favorite target no matter how covered he seems to be. i.e. game ending pass Gainwell was wide open for the TD and Rodgers locked on “his guy”.

It was stupid to go for it all, just kick the FG.

True. At least with veteran quarterbacks.

Quarterbacks routinely throw to who they think is the best matchup or to their best player based on pre-snap reads, post snap reads, or to anyone that gets open if a play is extended. A veteran QB like Rodgers can throw the football wherever he damn well wants regardless of the progressions built into a play.

Exactly. This doesn't mean it's being told....only throw there. The only plays that are only throw here are some screens, and not all screens are just throw here.

Progressions only mean where to look 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on, and can be totally changed by what the pre snap is.

Rodgers made some pretty dumb reads today. By far his worst game as a Steeler.

    These are called reads
    Qb goes through his progression
How many he goes through depends on how much time he has in the pocket
Arod certainly didn’t go through any progressions on the last play
In fact, he was talking to MVS as they broke the huddle

Tomlin probably received a lot of D’s in math.Maybe the only reason he got through William and Mary was on a scholarship fully guaranteed to pass.

I’m really surprised this has to be “explained”.

Anyone who thinks Rodgers wasn’t locked on to “his guy” and likely either calling the play or adjusting the play to reflect that once they got goal to go is foolish and is ignoring his 20 some year track record of doing so.

Nothing. I'm trying to teach some people something. From what I read a lot on the board some people think that when a play is called they think that the Qb can only throw to a certain target. I see it every game day thread.
Example: they can run a play with 4 routes, and one route will be wide open, but the Qb throws a different route, and they will say, that's a dumb play call. LoL. Like the coaches said, hey Qb, only throw this route. LoL
At least 15 people a game say these things, and I'm just trying to help them understand that's not how football works.

Off topic but I think that is the most difficult job in professional sports. I remember watching a show on Bill Walsh and the West Coast Offense and how Joe had to basically mentally compute 3 reads based on defensive alignment in basically 3 seconds.

Agreed, but don't tell that to the Madden, and new wave analytics people on here. They will try to say something like, the risk is worth it. LoL

I didn't then either. Hiw many times do I have to tell You this. The only time I was off for any time was during Thanksgiving. I've told you this at least 10 times. I don't live on my phone when relatives are visiting that I have seen all year.

It’s okay. You can just say you don’t think some folks know what they’re talking about.

It’s awful nice of you to try and avoid it.

But unless the Steelers offense staff was also calling plays for the Jets last season; this is a Rodgers thing.

I guess we won't know what the other three options looked like on that particular 4th and 1 play but I thought the push back during the game day thread was the actual play call and decision to go for it. No? Rodgers decision on that play was just the cheese on a failure sandwich.

Why don't you know what they looked like? They showed them during the game . They didn't blackout the other routes, and honestly this isn't about just that play, this is about any play. I just brought that up .

I try not to be mean if I can help it. Not everyone has played football, and some simply don't understand. I'm honestly trying to help the folks that don't understand.

Didn't see the routes on the replay. Either way, just pointing out the dislike for that particular play call. It is undeniable that Rodgers made some very poor decisions in this game that had nothing to do with the play calls or coaching staff.
