I am clueless why Justin Fileds could not wear #1?

Justin Fields hints at being #2 for the Steelers on Instagram.

Funny, I thought the Steelers retired #2 last year after Mason had those 4 really good games that made him a Hall of Famer. :)

I am now thinking if the Steelers deny him the #1 spot, he should double down and go with #11.

I think it's good. Focus on new beginnings with a new number. Don't hang onto the past. Focus on being a QB that can run instead of a RB that can throw.

I just read that Cordarrelle Patterson wants jersey number 84, but it sounded like the Steelers may have told him he can't wear #84.

CRAZY: QB Justin Fields does not get the #1, LB Patrick Queen gets #6, and RB Cordarrelle Patterson takes the #84.

Why do you care so much about what number Fields is going to wear?

I don't see a date on that article, but I can't help but think it was published April 1st.

Funny story about Jeresy number if you take the Jersey Number of a current player, you are then required to by all the unsold jersey of the player who is giving up his number. Kyle Pitts had agreed to give Kirk Cousins his number 8, but when Cousins found out he would have to buy every unsold Kyle Pitts jersey currently on the market he decided not to take number 8.

Kirk Cousins: It would have cost several hundred thousand dollars to get Kyle Pitts' No. 8 - NBC Sports

I wonder who gets to actually keep the jerseys? Seems like it wouldn't take much to change the name on the back of the jersey, and would some dude in a truck have pulled up to Cousin's house with sever hundred thousand dollars' worth of Jerseys?

Do teams have the same responsibility to buy up all the unsold merchandise when they release/trade a player? Because if they don't, it sounds like they're jacking the players.

Yeah I’m not buying that reporting. Never ever heard of that before, sounds sketchy af. The only thing you ever hear about numbers is a current lesser player agreeing to give up his number to a more prominent incoming player who wears the same number.

It’s true. DAlvin Cook wanted to switch from 33 to 4. Doing so would have cost him 1.5 million buying up unsold jerseys. He waited a year until the 33 jerseys were sold and then switched.

The same reason he does for every other Steelers player that gets denied “1”. Nobody knows

Players change numbers all the time when going to a new team. Something doesnt add up with this. This must only be if a player wants to change numbers on the team he is currently on.

Personally, I don’t care what number he wears. As long as he can get the ball from point A to B.

Why would you have the backup QB wear #1?
