I'm going to jump on the Landry Jones bandwagon. For now. I love a good underdog story. 3 > 2.

Without Landry Jones effort yesterday, loss. Bandwagon? Who cares. The kid had ice in his veins. The only thing I want to see is that washed up POS Vick never seeing the field again.

    Amen.

What was funny was how early in the game the commentators were talking about how Brown obviously needed Ben to make good stats etc. Then Jones comes on and shows us that, no, the offense isn't that bad without Ben; it's that bad with Vick.

Not to say Ben isn't a huge dimension within the offense, of course, but interesting just how bad Vick made us look.

Yep... Trying not to lose the game, and being so scared to throw a pick, that he thought he could run like he was 21 years old again...

I won`t discount the first downs he DID pick up, but...

If you can`t throw the ball... Don`t try and play Quarterback!!!

At least he knew his limitations, and didn` make stupid throws...

    Oh Wait...

Didn`t he have at LEAST 3 dropped int`s over the last 3 weeks?!?

Maybe more like 2 per game?

Glad his old man hammy took him outta the game.

And I have no illusions that Landry is the next Ben,,, But ...

He had the guts to throw the ball when we needed to, the coaches trusted him to do it, and he hit a lot more, than he missed...

    I was kinda impressed...
I don`t believe he is the answer for 4 quarters of football every week, but he showed me he can run the Offense a hell of a lot better than Vick, when called upon!

That`s all we need out of a backup!

Of course, Vick isn`t much of a "benchmark"...

Gradkowski, still might be better than Landry, when healthy, but I`ll take what I can get, for now...

    GO STEELERS!!

Give the keys of a ferrari to a blind man and its going to look like **** when he's finished with it.

Tomlin put friendship before the team, if I could see Vick had nothing left to offer, why the heck couldn't they. Not to mention bringing in a left handed QB when your starter is right handed is just plain dumb. Meanwhile you have a QB you spent a 4th rd pick on, who has been learning the system for 3 years sitting there and who has improved while working with 3rd string talent and yet you couldn't fathom he might actually play better with 1st string talent.

I'll be stewing over that one for a while but Im happy I can start enjoying Steeler football again.

Hated the Jones pick and never saw much out of him in the preseason. I didn't think he would do very well if he ever got a chance. That said, he did great coming in yesterday and my hats off to him. I'm not anointing him anything yet though and want to see how he does with a full game under center. Do we get the player that would get pulled by his college coaches when they got in the redzone or the player we saw yesterday. I hope he does good, he could be a valuable back-up. KC's defense will be a good measuring stick.

I was starting to question if maybe I was being too hard on Vick by insisting that a veteran QB should be able to make a simple quick slant throw but it is nice to see that I wasn't and that Jones could in fact hit a quick slant, he could also throw the ball to Brown and Wheaton, he was able to find Miller and get the run game going. Yes Vick made some plays but at the end of the day things weren't clicking and he shouldn't have been option one.

Joe Montana is a vet with starting experience. I didn't see us ask him to come play, however, after watching Vick I doubt there would have been a drop-off!

Great assessment, Jack. At OU, Jones was quickly given the tag as a system QB. Running uptempo offense, rarely under center, great O-line. It wasn't until he had playmakers like DeMarco Murray, Ryan Broyles, Jermaine Grisham, etc. that he got comfortable and shined. He can NOT carry a team like Ben, but he has the ability to get the ball out quick to our playmakers. A major weakness has always been his ability to read defenses. Maybe Ben and Haley have helped in that regard. I'm not saying he's our QB of the future but the O'Donnell reference is a perfect analogy.

The sad thing is that there would be a ton of threads about a loss if not for this thread. Hopefully Vick is out for the year.

I just read a power ranking article and we are the highest ranked team that has a loss. The author says maybe Super Bowl citing the improving defense.

I think the improving defense is what is getting everyone excited. We know the offense will be there.

Jump on the bandwagon, damit! LOL.

It appears that since Vick is saying he's out this week that Landry will start and therefore Ben will be the back up. Lets hope that there is no need to bring Ben in which would probably be too soon. Hopefully, Vick isn't suited up at all or just misses the flight altogether.

What you all say now? You all ok with "Dirty" backing up Ben for the next 3-4 seasons? Im thinking not.

I feel no more or less confident about Landry than I did. I wouldn't recommend putting a lot of money down betting on the Ben/Landry duo 4 years from now, though.

I still think Landry has shown enough to be Ben's backup next year.

    Absolutely...

Just like you say his supporters shouldn`t judge him on what he did in 2 quarters,

I would say his detractors shouldn`t judge him on one game.

RIGHT NOW, he is the best back-up to Ben, we have on the bench...

At least our offense resembled what it can do with Ben at QB...

We gained first downs, moved the ball... 2 of the turnovers are arguably not his fault(Brown tipped a ball in the air, as he tried to catch it, and Jones got strip-sacked)...

Only ONE int would I say was a poor decision...

Compared to VICK... NEGATIVE 6 yards passing going into halftime the week before...

    C`MON MAN!!!

    Landry is decent as BACKUP...

    Vick can`t do CRAP!!!

MAYBE Gradkowski could do better... Maybe not..

I`m not sayin we should commit to Jones, and not look at other options in the future drafts, or free-agency players available next year...

But for right now, who is on our roster...

Hell Yeah, He has earned a chance to be our #2...

Better than a #2, that does nothing but carry a clipboard, like, ummm...

Maddox, O`Donnell, ummm Stewart, umm... I dunno...

I was trying to think of a young kid, not a veteran backup, ... who never did squat...

And stayed on the sidelines for a long time...

    I`m drawing a blank...

Most of the ones I thought of, came in and contributed...

Dennis Dixon was a short term back-up, right?(evr played in a regular season game?)

Who am I having a brain fart on???

All he did was hold the clipboard, because he never had to go in...

And I`m not talking about Batch. He was a vet when he got here.. might have been 3d string behind him...

After Batch, we went with Byron Leftwitch as the "veteran"...

    DING DING DING....

    I had to google it...

    Mike Tomzack....

Embarassed to admit it was a Buckeye... But that is the last time I could think of a "draftee",

That never really contributed, at some point in his career...

We briefly tried him at "starter", and he didn`t get it done...

    Damn Shame...

Most of the others panned out for at least a season, or, a few games...

So, I am willing to give Landry Jones the #2 spot, over Vick...

Hopefully, we won`t need him anymore, Because Ben will stay healthy...

    But, If we do...

My Money is on him, over Vick...

Look at what our other "backups" have done...

Pretty good track record, for "backups"...

I trust the Steelers!!!(and my own eyes!!!!)...

And thats all I have to say about that...

    LOL... GO STEELERS!!!:herewego!:

I feel good about him being our backup. He has less than 2 full games under his belt on an NFL field. His first looked great. They lost the next one. With more real game experience in the NFL I think he could do some pretty good things.
