I know this would never happen, but let's say Ben was willing to play another 2-3 years. What do you think we could get for him? A 2nd round pick?

I think Ben would retire before being traded.

I'm not married, so that would be a fine trade by me.

That does bring up a question - do we think that this is Ben's last year?

If we miss the playoffs (and given how hard the back half of the schedule is I'm pretty damn sure we do) I think Ben hangs it up. I bet Tomlin retires too. Without Ben we will see his true coaching abilities....and it ain't gonna be good for his legacy.

Well. You wouldn't have a big market for him. If you're in the bottom half of the league and are two years away Ben serves no purpose. You'd have to find a decent team that needs a QB to contend.

So who'd be interested? Jax? Minn? Den? Mia? Hou? I would give the farm up for a 37 yr old guy who had his share of beating.

They'd offer a 2nd rounder and the Steelers wouldn't think that was enough. And both sides would be right. Which makes this trade impossible.

I think Ben will be forced to retire and it's not going to be pretty. Guys like Ben don't just walk away from the game.

Johnny Unitas played season for the Chargers, Namath for the Rams, Brett Favre for everybody. I wouldn't shock me if Ben went elsewhere particularly if the Steelers balk at a contract extension

Personally, I'd rather see him retire than wear another teams' uniform.

What coach has long term and sustained success without good/great players? I will never understand fans who have your logic.

Belichick had a fine year even when Matt Cassel was starting. He's done well even with a carousel of coordinators and relative no-name skill position players.

Maybe Ben can take over as our punter and play till 50.

    Beats what we have now.

I love what Ben has done for this organization and am sure he retires a Steeler. Now not to wish any harm to Ben but if we should lose the next few games and it's obvious we are not going to playoffs I kind of hope he stubs his big toe and is out for season so the future can get some real experience.

BB sucked in Cleveland. One year without great players doesn't equal sustained success.

Your logic is flawed. Coaches need good/great player to have success. Ultimately players win games in the NFL.

was chatting w/ my cousin earlier and said to him that I wouldn't be surprised if this is it for Ben with all the BS drama and a team that has no direction. He's not going to keep subjecting himself at his age, not to mention missing time with his kids. He's made enough money to last 100 lifetimes...he can walk away at any time now
