Rodgers playing his last season is a unique situation. Because of this, it opens the door for a unique solution, like keeping 4 qbs on the roster. Typically, I am not an advocate for keeping 4 qbs but this is not a typical year for the steelers qb room. Keeping four would be a sound long term strategy for the franchise.

Better let MM know because his depth chart looks out of date based on your comment.

    It’s football in shorts

I don’t make much out of it until they put on pads and play a different team

Mostly this is something I toss back at Blast when someone posts terrific things about plays I practice being made by players in shorts with no real contact

MM is well aware that Rudolph is the clear No. 2 on the depth chart. Is that the one you are talking about? At the same time, he’s been gushing about Allar (you can read the comments online). If the Steelers only keep three quarterbacks, Allar is the one who will get the roster spot over Howard.

IMO, Howard is playing for a possible trade or just or case Rudolph flops / or get injured in the preseason games.

    Nope

Actually very clearly Howard is ahead of Allar on the depth chart

I’ll provide a useable proof of this current fact obviously this can change but for now an honest accurate fact

The Steelers would be more honest if they just listed both Howard and Allar as co-3rd string for now.Only fools think Drew Allar isn’t making this football team.If you’re going by the current depth chart, Rudolph is clearly the backup. And if that holds through camp, Allar is ahead of Howard.

I have heard Howard and Allar have both struggled in camp, don't fall for those highlights that's being shared according to the local media.

If we want to keep both young guys, I think you have to get rid of Mason.

There won't be any work for a 4th QB during the regular season IMO. So there's no real development.

Most agree that this is Allar's red shirt year. Be careful with how you see development, especially with Tom Arth. It can come in many different forms. Just being in the building, putting in the work, being around the guys and coaches, knowing the playbook, is development.

If there was a roster exemption for a 4th QB this would make sense to me.

If you think both young qb have a real chance to be something, it's best to let Mason walk (or trade him for a low pick).

You'll probably be worse if AR gets hurt. If he was hurt for a long time, it's probably better to be worse. If he's only hurt for a short time (like last year), maybe you end up losing an extra game or two. And you end up missing the playoffs instead of making it and losing in the first round.

If you're prioritizing the medium term by developing QBs, I don't think either of those "worst case" scenarios are bad. Rooney likely disagrees.

You have a hard time with facts. You may want Allar to be ahead of Howard but at the moment he isn’t.

Who said Allar isnt going to make the team? Thats a very different argument than who is where on the depth chart and Allar is very obviously buried on it.

This is very clearly a red shirt year for him. There has been zero talk about him being the backup, all the talk has been about who will win the competition between Rudolph and Howard to back up Rodgers.

I’ll be glad when the season starts so the talking heads have something else to talk about besides the battle for 4th string QB.

    Says you.

Howard is way ahead of Allar… in thrown interceptions in camp. Right now the Steelers are in full evaluation mode on Howard. I think McCarthy is close to locking in Rudolph as the backup. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old Allar ( there’s a big difference between a 22-year-old and the soon to be 25-year-old in QB development ) still has a real shot to be the QB1 in 2027 because he has greater upside to develop. It wouldn’t surprise me if Howard gets traded or cut in 2026.

I’d be very surprised if Allar get traded or cut in 2026.

    Prediction:

Rudolph is the back up and Allar is QB#3 going into game #1 of the season. Baring an injury or we keep 4 QB ( slim chance ) of course.

It does not surprise me that you're taking a camp roster chart before pre season game #1 as hard facts.

The truth of the matter is Allar is struggling and the article is in SD today. Doesn’t mean he can’t turn it around but he is solid #4 and it isn’t even close.

Before camp even started you were using fictitious depth charts from clickbait sources as hard facts

    Make up your mind Joel
