I had the YouTube algorithm suggest this video yesterday and it was a bit startling.

Just covers that they avoid high priced bidding wars for high profile positions such as tackle, CB, and WR and prefer to use draft capital to stock up on middle round players that aren't ones generating high salaries as the rookie deals end. They use reasoning such as is there a difference between a 10 yard completion by a wide receiver than a 10 yard completion to a TE? The only difference is you pay the WR 15 million on average while a TE costs you five for the same production. They talked about Roman designing his offense to fit the players he has rather than model it after teams that have high priced receivers that the Ravens don't. The poster said it is closest the NFL has gotten to moneyball to date. How they maximize the compensatory pick formula to get the most midround picks available.

it certainly explains dumping Brown at the draft and cutting Boykin and basically making it so there is no high priced WR's but lots of hybrid TE's that create mismatches for opposing defenses

Also, explains their hiring choices. They're killing it with comp picks because guys are getting hired away from positions that don't really affect them as a team.

Last year, they traded their All Pro offensive tackle and then were surprised that they lost their star QB to injury completely ruining their season last year. (Lamar was sacked 7 times in his one game against the Steelers)
This year they traded away their best and only #1 WR, but picked up 2 TEs in the draft to replace him; we will see how that works out.

And, no I didn't watch the video to find out how these things were good for the team

Can't wait to see what they do with Lamar's contract this year.... Hold Out?

I can't blame players who are on their Rookie contracts for holding out; even those that are in the 5th year option like Lamar.

1st there is the draft, so they don't get to decide where they are going, and now there is the rookie pay-scale, so they don't even get to negotiate their own contracts.

MY boss tries to send me to a hell hole like Cleveland, my first reaction would be Hell No, and then my next reaction would be like OK, but it is going to cost this company a but load of money.
