Assuming we draft top 10 this year how long until the Steelers can be relevant again? A lot of it depends on Pickett clearly but let’s say he is a serviceable starting QB how long to fill the holes? 3 years or less?

First year without Ben looks like a disaster but maybe this was always part of the process?

What does it mean to be relevant?
1 Winning record? That is still possible now, but I wouldn't bet on it. Could be this year or next.
2 Get to post season? I doubt this is possible, but who knows. Most likely 2023 or 2024.
3 Win a game in post season? The time that has elapsed since our last post season win indicates that this will depend on organizational changes. Our players are young, but our schemes are old, tired, and predictable. Until this is corrected, its undeterminable.
    4 SB Champions? See #3.

Drafting good players with the same O and D/ HC/ culture is like putting lipstick on a pig. May look better but its still not going to get where we want. JMO>

I would say you are relevant when you can win a playoff game.

You guys better watch out for the Coach Tomlin police posters who will attack you now.
He has that non losing season trophy so he is untouchable and is funny at press conferences. Our old schemes we’re depantsed last afc champ. Should have moved on from tomlin then. We will never be relevant again as long as he is head coach. Move hi to front office or cbs pregame show and get real x”s and o”s coach and not a cheerleader

Pat Riley said that a coach should move on after a certain time period usually ten years because message becomes stale. He is not dude to rebuild team around. He is a child playing checkers while Andy Reid is playing chess

Chiefs rebuilt o line in a year and so did Seahawks and Steelers has spent four trying and failing worse each time. We might average under 14 points a game by the time Canada installs his total rpo run ball up middle first two play scheme

I think it will be quick. If they pick top 10 every round you can get some legit players. Hopefully they take LT, OG/C, ILB. Also if they have a bad enough record to pick top 10 that means they would be playing a last place finisher’s schedule next year. We could see a first round playoff win as early as next year.

IF Khan hits on his first draft.

As long as it takes for KP to get better. The Steelers should know by years 3 or 4 what they have in him.

It's a QB driven league. If KP is not the answer then the Steelers will need to find a new QB.

    What are the holes?

    1. LT - Moore- inconsistent at best - probably needs to be replaced
    2. LG - dotson - same
    3. NT - Draft in 23
    4. DL - Cam - 2 years left, Is Ogunjobi the replacement for Tuitt?
    5. ILB - need a buck - is Robinson the guy?
    6. OLB - Need a reliable 3rd, As Watt is injury prone and Highsmith needs help when Watt is out.

    7. Offensive Coordinator - shell out the bucks for a good one

I believe 1 through 3, 6 and 7 can be addressed this offseason through draft and FA. If that happens and KP is developing into a competent QB (Say O'Donnell Level) then we are a playoff team next year.

Further development by KP and strengthen 4 - 6 and maybe a contender by 2024.

Rebuilding the roster will not amount to much if we don't rebuild some of the coaching staff.

In the first 7 weeks of this season 43 games have been decided by 8 pts or less, an NFL "record" ( losing that term loosely). Steelers were in 5 of those games, won 1 in OT. At this point there are only 2 or 3 elite teams, the rest for the most part are that close between good, to average, to garbage.

The difference between good and average is not that difficult..and you can even get to and win a SB at that point. Cincy or the Rams were not elite last year..but put together runs that got them there.

We could actually be good in one year, but it starts at the top. MT or not, but definitely changing the O and D schemes with new and aggressive minds.

I think we are reasonably close. I am assuming we draft top 10 for sure in 2023 - get the stud OL guy we need? I am cautiously optimistic next year looks a million times better.

Depends what you consider relevant. The division looks incredibly mediocre so it might not take long to get back into playoff contention.

To build a true SB contender though is another story. That takes some good (and lucky) drafting.
