Grimbles was the same as the Dez catch that got called back. It's all up to interpretation by the refs and different refs interpret things differently. It's the human element of the game and there will never be 100% consistency as long as humans are involved in the decision making process

The ball was clearly on the ground. It's painfully obvious to see the ball hit the ground. There's inconsistency in every sport because we're imperfect animals. Either you want cameras/computers/AI making all the calls in sports, or you need to accept the inconsistencies. Not all refs view things the same way

And in trying to explain why it wasn't a catch, the NFL calls it a catch. "Roethlisberger completes a pass to James." Clear as mud. Can the NFL do anything right?

Clearly there will never be consistency. They might as well flip a coin.

This is how I always interpreted the TD ,,break the plane of the goal line ,ball is dead ,anything after is null and void ,same reason a QB reaches over and pulls it back same reason AB's TD beat the ravens ,ball breaks the plain for a TD
What if he caught it and dove with arms extended and then the ball squirts loose when he lands ,is that not a TD now

I'd really like to see the play this explanation came from.

It's coin flip with those kind of video reviews, but in all honesty. All he had to do was bring the catch to his body and roll into the endzone.

I'm confident that the Steelers will beat em if they face them again.

The refs need to be held accountable for debacles like this

Do they have a time limit on video reviews?

If it takes so long to make a call, I don't think it should be overturned.

Well, James knew there was defender right behind him. I can't really fault him for trying to make the play a touchdown.

Because the NFL has a love affair with Tom Brady is why it was overturned. They have to get him to the SB every year if they can. Fortunately they are playing the Bills next week who are fighting for their playoff lives. Maybe they get some revenge on Gronk for the dirty deliberate play he did earlier on their player.

How many steps did grumble take? Was grumble touched?

I just looked at the replay.

A knee counts as 2 feet down.

Him bringing the ball to his chest counts as control.

It looked like he had his hand under the ball too when he supposedly lost control.

How was it not a TD.

posted by our boy Trai Essex.... basically, the NFL expects refs to be lawyers and parse every single word of the rules.... they chose to emphasize "survive the ground", while this perspective is clearly in our favor.

I'm still heated but I hope we use it as fuel for the fire. It could end up being a blessing in disguise because the team learned a lot from that game....next time they will prepare for the refs as well and leave no doubt...

Oh, come on, Trai! Imagine a receiver lays out, diving for a ball and grabs it with his hands. His toe technically is the first body part to contact the ground ... and then the rest of his body slams to the turf, and the ball goes flying out of his hands. You're seriously going to argue that'd be a completion?! Talk about lawyering...

Interesting. You hear about surviving the ground, but no where in the rules do I see those words. One thing for sure, the NFL rules are a giant cluster fcuk. They should be embarrassed. This isn't the first time they've had this fiasco.
