How much is coaching? Drafting? Or as I suspect a huge part is Ben.

I think they just seem to get good players. I do not think it is Ben, as the ones who leave seem to do well too.

Sanders had a great year last year. Even the guy who went to the Titans did well. Wallace.........????????? Diva!!!!!!!

Good drafting and scouting, you have to give WR coach Richard Mann a lot of credit he develops these players. Most of these WRs are mid round or later draft picks.

They are late rd pics. I never would have guessed when AB was drafted he could be a no 1. Clearley something is hapening in the Burgh.

When I say Ben may be making our receivers great I mean teaching them exactly what to do consistiently so that even when they do leave they understand the game thoroughly. Something is working for sure.

I read some where Arians is a big reason we drafted A.B.

Kevin Colbert actually can evaluate WR position, this is his forte,
Can't evaluate OL& DB's. Ha, neither can our HC& assistants.

I'm going Mann. DHB looked like his career was over and a complete mess of a WR when he showed up here. He still isn't great by any means but he has gotten better.

AB was a good receiver in college too, just not from a major conference. that's what gets me when people put the MAC in a lesser role as per competition. it's produced ben, AB, harrison and mitchell. not a bad group from a lower competition level.

as for the wr's, i'd have to say it's a conglomerate of decent drafting, richard mann and ben. they are pretty good coming in, mann refines them and ben and his receivers work hard on their game.

Tomlin was a WR in college and I'd say that has something to do with it. I'm sure he knows what to look for but if you think about it we've had some really good WR's in our time. I mean 3 of our 6 Super Bowl MVP's have been WR's.

I remember a few years back when Brown was a rookie and when he caught a preseason pass, the Panthers announcer said, "They seem to grow receivers on trees in Pittsburgh."

Colbert drafted Pouncey and DeCastro also Gilbert is getting better, so he can draft OL. I would agree with you about him not being able to draft DBs though.

    well
I guess it must be because of Ben
    he drew the play up
    probably told Richard mann
    "hush hush voices carry"

All of the above are true.

Another factory, though, is the simple fact we have traditionally not overpaid the WR position. Why did Washington, Randle El, Wallace etc. leave? Because they had better offers that the Steelers weren't going to match. We have out main guys, obviously, like Ward, but otherwise the turnaround of WRs here is fairly big.

I suppose what I'm saying is that, yes, we are good at drafting and coaching up receivers; but there's the fact that we need to keep drafting them and coaching them in the first place that might give us the appearance of being a factory.

And that's not a criticism of the organisation, just something to take into consideration.
