How does Mike Tomlin compare to other NFL head coaches? There's no doubt the standard has fallen.

I mean... Belichick is currently being questioned (though for me it always has been) whether or not Brady was the central figure to his success. Pre and post Tom Brady, Bill Belichick.... is definitley not the same as he was with Tom. For that matter, his current situation is a great reason as to why other Legendary Head Coaches like Joe Gibbs need to have more respect on their name.

Winning three Super Bowls with three different QBs is a lot easier said than done.

    Now, regarding Tomlin?!?!.......

Agree with others. 2019 and this season. Are the best examples we have regarding Tomlin without Big Ben. I do believe that Tomlin and the Steelers will be in better standing (on paper thus far) in 2023 but there are is still insufficient info. in that department; all the more reason I don't make predictions until after the draft.... which is still too early given how the Scheduling itself will have yet to be revealed.

We know the teams the Steelers will play.... just not when and where.

12 years 3 playoff wins. Not sure that's the hallmark of a great coach. He is a good coach in my opinion but far from great. We'll see how he does moving forward.

Tomlin won one superbowl with Ben. He had Ben his entire career. That's probably enough to judge him on right there. He has had talent that few coaches in the league have had. Yet here we are 3 playoff wins in 12 years and that's WITH Ben. They retained one of the worst coaches in the NFL in Canada. That doesn't promise a lot for the upcoming year. We'll see how it goes.

The standard for the Steelers didn't fall. The idiots believe that organizations/teams should win no matter the obstacles they face.

It takes time for an organization to retool and rebuild a quality team. Anyone that is a rational sports fan should know this.

Tomlin will never be considered an all time great HC until..............

We held hands around a table in a darkened room. I felt the cold breath of S.T.D. on my neck as he whispered in my ear: Tomlin kept Edmunds on the team!

I'll say this, the Packers have had a top 5(maybe higher) QB for 30 consecutive seasons. With only 18 total games missed. Only won two SB's, played in three, and haven't made it to one in 12 years.

And, they played in the NFC. They didn't have to deal with P. Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger, and Rivers for over 20 years. And more recently Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, and Jackson.

Who did the have to deal with? Breese? He only made it to one SB.(2 championship games)

Eli? He was weak. Those Giants teams were all defense.

How about McNabb? He was tough, but again one SB appearance.

Point is, the unbelievable run of having 30 straight years of back to back HOF quarterbacks is unprecedented. It's very hard to win SB's, or even get to them. I know Brady made it like 50% of the time but that just isn't realistic.

I'm not defending Tomlin as much as pointing out how hard the NFL is.

    LoL.:roflmao:
I actually don't blame that on Tomlin....that's a Steelers thing. We always, or usually ...if We draft them....keep them around in some capacity for at least 4 years. Hell T. Edmunds would Have been gone last year, but He took chicken scraps to stay.

Oh. I thought we were talking about a coach. Ben has played poorly in some of the playoff games. He's won 2 superbowls as a starter. Didn't play all that well but he did it. Tomlin? I don't see there will be much difference between him without Ben or with Ben. He is what he is. Just as long as we don't have a losing season he's gold.

Adaption as the game changes as well, not game time, but the total aspect of how the NFL moves in certain directions. HC's getting a lot of power can work, but it also can become a detriment as the game evolves and they are stuck in a certain mindset. Chick Noll was still a good coach and the team he built as Cowher took over had some very good talent. The game does pass some however and just like a player who passes his prime the decision to move on often comes from outside. Bellichek wants the all time wins record, probably 3 years away with decent seasons. This is where Kraft will have to decide if the past success has earned BB the right to stay, or of the team slides or fails to achieve any success to move on.

I feel that when discussing 2019 it's less about what Tomlin does without Big Ben and more about what he did with Rudolph and Hodges. That team had no business winning 8 games with those guys at QB. Tomlin finds ways to get his teams to overcome a lack of talent in key positions.
