It's always fun to go back and take a look at some of the predictions we made before the season began. I think I was the first to menion Todd Haley as the logical choice as the Steelers next offensive coordinator and where Jonathan Dwyer is concerned I'm pleased to say that the crystal ball seems to be working:

I've never been one to shy away from making bold predictions and here's my latest:
Jonathan Dwyer will entrench himself as the Steelers' feature back by the halfway point of the season, regardless of whether or not Mendy is 100%.

2012 Breakout player for the Steelers - Jonathan Dwyer.

Jonathan Dwyer should be running out with the starters on opening day, regardless of whether or not Isaac Redman is ready to go. I like Redman and I understand he's had the nagging groin injury throughout training camp, but Dwyer has been phenomenal every time he's gotten an opportunity. This guy averaged over 6.2 ypc at Georgia Tech on over 500 carries and he's averaged over 6.0 ypc in limited action with the Steelers. In the pre-season, he's averaging 5.6 ypc when virtually every other running back we have, including Redman, is averaging about half that. He's also doing a great job in pass protection and in catching the ball out of the backfield. Is there any question at this point who should be starting? I predict he'll have a breakout year and Mendy will be going bye bye after this season, even if he does get back to where he was before the injury. Thoughts?

I realize that these predictions aren't complete at this point and there is still a long way to go, but Dwyer is not disappointing now that he's had a chance to start a couple of games. I expect him to continue running the ball effectively because that's what he's done his entire career, whether in college or the NFL.

Now, we won't talk about all the times that the crystal ball has failed me. :)

What about you? Care to share some of your pre-season predictions and give us an update on how they are going at close to the midway point in the season? You can talk about the booms or the busts - lol. This should be fun.

Nice call on Dwyer! I was begging for him to be the starter (although I have no proof of that ;-) ).

Here's a couple of other predictions I dug up from way back in January and February:

Did anybody notice that the only other player that Haley mentioned by name in his press conference yesterday besides Ben was one Heath Miller. Hmmm? He said that Heath Miller was one of his favorite players to watch and just raved about him. Does anyone else see Heath's biggest statistical season by far coming up??

I think Todd Haley is the logical choice. The Rooney's and Todd's father, Dick Haley, go way back and have a very good relationship. Haley has turned down a couple of gigs already and the possible reason that he has is because he was clued in by Rooney that a change was coming in Pittsburgh. A lot of people don't like Haley because they say he's not a player's coach. Heck, we saw what we got with the "player's coach" BA. Ben ran the offense with little input from BA. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 times a game, Ben got what he wanted. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 yards downfield forcing it to Wallace instead of checking up to Heath WIDE OPEN at 12 yards, Ben did it. If Ben wanted to go empty backfield set and 4 wide on a 3rd and 1, Ben got to do it. If Ben wanted to play SANDLOT FOOTBALL, Ben got to play sandlot football. Ben may not realize it, but part of the reason that he is STILL not considered an elite QB in the same leage as Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning, etc. is partially because BA gave him WAY TOO MUCH FREE REIGN. And Tomlin allowed it to all go on as he watched (notice the word "watched") helplessly from the sidelines. Tomlin did not even want to be involved in what was going on offensively during a game. I'm through ranting. As far as I'm concerned, Ben needs somebody like Todd Haley to put him in his place and let him know that he runs the offense. If Bill O'Brien can get in the face of perhaps the greatest QB to ever play, Tom Brady, for throwing a STUPID red zone interception then Ben is not above being screamed at for his ineptitude and straying from the game plan at times. BRING ON TODD HALEY!

This is fun! Enough tooting my own horn, let's hear from some of you. Oh, and I know there are probably plenty of examples out there where the old predictive powers have failed me miserably, but it's good to gloat a little bit when they work. :hehehe:

You know at one point I went game by game with results predictions, but don't remember what thread it was in. I would be curious to see how I was doing.

The "advanced search" feature is pretty good. I've been able to dig up obscure old posts pretty quickly (when I can remember what the hell I was talking about).

Pretty sure I picked Steelers over Atlanta in the superbowl. I'm sticking with it.

I feel like I'm pretty solid in my predictions. I wouldn't know where to look but I can say for sure that my biggest fear was defense and I thought the offense would be much better. I feel like that's pretty much what it's been for the most part. That wasn't a hard prediction to make though. Our D was crappy last year and we really didn't make any changes at all so I saw no reason to expect a different result from the same thing being tried.

Pretty right on target, our inability to generate a pass rush.
My single biggest concern entering the season.

not good...I had us beating oakland and tenn.So now we have to go out and beat two teams that I had us losing to_Our defense is still not dependable and the offense is not as efficient and productive as I would like to see.We should be avg.3opts a game.Thats one td each qtr and a field goal. Why won't Ben hold the recvrs after practice and get their timing down pack? :frustrated:

This season will ride on Bens arm, in 2011 he had 21 TDs and 14 picks, this year he already has 14 TDs 3 picks with 9 games left, he is on pace to have 33 TDs and 8 picks, he could have even more TDs depending on the strength of secondaries he will face down the stretch and if he has a good enough running game to give him his strong suit, the play action pass, he can make up for this defenses weakness by putting up more points on the board this year than he had last year, and I think he will....
