For sure. Just as there are only so many ways to say "nay". Like you, I want to analyse things, look at different aspects of the team etc.

I tend to agree about the pass D. I'm wondering if Lebeau just thought "what the hell, Luck will kill us otherwise" and sent the blitzers in on every play. The unsurprising result was that Worilds, when allowed to pass rush, can generate some heat.

Hopefully this is the start of a roll. It was like watching the team that started off against Cleveland in week 1, but before they fell apart. Apart from the DBs, the pieces are there to fall into place... just need to see the same kind of execution from players and coaches for the next few weeks.

EXACTLY.. The one call that really illustrates the "go for the throat" mentality is the 4th and 1 with a pass to the endzone. Yeah sure they could have kicked the field goal but I am almost certain this would have put the Colts back in the game.. Maybe some teams you can play a safer more conservative game but I got the feeling we would lose if they went for the field goal.

That call was not well received on this board but to me it was the right call and yes if it had not worked out I would have said the same thing lol

Let's not forget that the Colts scored 34 points and Luck passed for 400 yards. Can't really give DL props for that.

    Yes.:applaud:

The coaches came in with a good game plan, and changed their tendencies to play conservative, on both sides of the ball.

    Props are deserved!:yeehaw:

    GO STEELERS!

I second that. They stopped talking about not living in their fears, and started playing like they refused to live in those fears....

They put young guys in on Offense and young guys in on Defense they had an attacking style of game plan on both sides of the ball and the players executed....All but 1 ....

If we play that style with better CB play we could beat most Teams hand down ...I saw an aggressive style on D that looked great minus Cortez ...I seriously think we could make a deep, deep, run if we could upgrade the CB spot....

The D played well save for c. Allen. And the penalties were crazy but it's been that way all year and not just for us, though it did seem like anytime something went our way on D the late flag erased it.

It wasn't all on Allen. The Colts passed for 400 yards. If Ben didn't play out of his mind they would have lost.

Or, If Luck wouldn`t have had pressure in his face all game long, HE might have thrown for 500, and we would have lost...:hmmm:

Youre right, but a couple of the scoring/splash plays were on Allen. Hell, maybe even throw in Mitchell as he seems out of position a lot and he's supposed to be the deep man. I think LeBeau called it as good as he could with a secondary that we all already know isn't up to snuff. Seems to me he mixed up his personnel pretty damn good yesterday and was aggressive. He put people in position and some boys didn't get it done at times.

Tomlin benched Cortez too which led to Blakes pick six. So good timing there.

Lets put this in some perspective the Bronco's who have two legitimate pass rushers in Ware and Miller and have very good secondary led by Talib had Luck throw for 35/53 for 370 with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. So a team with a defense that has more talent at the skill positions gave up 24 points and nearly 400 yards passing to the same team the Steelers with a suspect secondary and some yet to be decided quality pass rushers and some wet behind the ears first and second year players gave up 34 points and 400 yards passing. What exactly would you have done differently? I think DL deserves all the credit in the world for breaking out of the rut the defense has been in and going after Luck. Heck if not for some ticky-tacky calls they would have had the same showing that the Bronco's with their shiny bought and paid for defense did. I'm all for being critical of a performance but lets keep some perspective here.

I will give the coach credit. Coach Cowher deserves credit for calling this defense soft and firing us up. LOL!

Nope I am still here, also can't believe what I saw.
This was the best performance from a Steeler team since we beat the Patriots a couple years ago. 5 more wins an we will be at my prediction for the year.Keep attacking and rotating, things that should have been done since the beginning of the season.

The Colts were also facing a huge deficit from the off. Giving Andrew Luck the licence to throw on just about every down is going to produce big numbers, whoever you are.

That's not to say our pass defense isn't suspect. But it is to say that you can't just look at stats as a reflection on what went on in the game.

    Also, what thorn said.

It's a headscratcher as to why some of these things didn't happen earlier. I think I said it in another post, but I wonder what happens in some of those earlier games if the red zone offense clicks better, one or two less dropped passes, one or two less blown coverages happen. Maybe then we look like a better prepped team.

Unfortunately in the NFL today those 1-2 plays can be all the difference. But hopefully this game gives us momentum to continue.

I wI'll give the coaches mad props for Sunday. The team was ready, and firing on all cylinders. Yes, our coverage was not great, but it wasn't as bad as the numbers indicate. Luck is just that good. He's turning into a guy who combines the best traits of Brady and Ben. Aside from Cortez being beaten a few times and Timmons not being able to handle a TE vertical, many of Luck's completions were contested. The pressure was great, and IMO was the absolute right strategy.

The coaches do have a tough job this week. We not only have to prepare for a good, angry Ravens team, but also have to figure out how to keep the team from feeling too good about the Colts game. It was great, but it needs to be put into the rear view mirror.
