Let's assume the fan called him the n word and his mom the c word - just for the sake of argument.

For me, I wish Metcalf would've broke the dude's jaw and left him unconscious. If Metcalf gets a game sit down from the NFL...that is BS (in this case assuming the dude said some awful crap) but I wouldn't care. I still think Metcalf would be in the right.

Also...based on nothing more than reading an early report where the "fan" said he called Metcalf his "government name"...first thing I thought was "Yeah, right, buddy. Anyone who starts tossing around the terms "government name" around black folk...is just trying to go avoid going on the record having said the n word."

Again...I have no idea what happened and likely never will. But I suspect that by the end of the week...we are going to find out that Metcalf had reason.

I don't believe for a second that DK reacted this way simply because the guy called him his name. That's beyond ridiculous. It had to be something really nasty to get a reaction like that.
But that doesn't excuse DK's actions. As an adult and a pro He should have had someone get security to handle the situation.

I'm thinking he gets a huge fine and some kind of suspension. At least one game or maybe more.

I would expect the NFL will respond quickly

If he is suspended he would probably be best to just accept it and get it over with

Do suspensions carry over into the playoffs or do they go to the following year

Financially it makes a big difference

A game check is much bigger than a playoff check

The NFL.Com headline uses the word swiped

    Not punched etc

Im thinking that nuance may allow them to more easily lean towards the Lamar type result

    Random thought

I’m surprised there hasn’t been an update on this but DK might be invited to NY for a discussion

I know he took a swipe, but did he even make contact with the fan?

Also, the fan had a Steelers #4 jersey, did he lure him over to sign it and then drop a slur?

Not saying that would make it right, but it would put it more into context.

The best thing for these players to do anymore is ignore the fans completely, don't sign autographs, don't talk to them, don't do events, don't talk to the media.....just go completely radio silent during the season.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

    Here's the moment of non-impact:

    I agree.

Especially with how much publicity it's gotten.

That's the thing. Working on the assumption that the fan said what I THINK he said...I do not believe Metcalf was wrong. I think he was 100% right.

Some friends and I were discussing the idea that it seems the younger generation seem more comfortable dropping the n word and we suspect that's because there aren't any consequences. They haven't been punched in the mouth for saying something that inflammatory.

The more that comes out about this, the more it seems premeditated to me. This fan calls DK over to supposedly sign a jersey, then there were words and the phantom punch seen around the world. If the fan did indeed drop a slur, it was to illicit a response from Metcalf. In that case, he got what he wanted.

If you drop that slur, you are doing so to instigate an altercation. No two ways about it. Or you're a douchbag racist.

How is it right to strike someone over words? You must have been raised different from me. My right.. you walk away. Who won in the end? It wasn't Metcalf.

After the swipe the fans makes a victory sign by raising both arms and hands over his head. The fan planned and baited DK, who has to be smarter than this. I look for a 1 game suspension and hefty fine. Lesson learned.

Meh. Fans need to keep their stupid mouths shut sometimes. Add in alcohol and you get a perfect storm.

Cheer, boo.. sure. But when you start singling out players with slurs, etc - all bets are off.

You, or anyone else, has a right to say anything that comes to mind. But that does not remove consequences from the action of exercising that right.

Say some racist crap, you deserve to get punched right in the mouth.

To be clear, I am not saying that you would do this...just trying to outline my point of view.

Of course, if all this guy was doing was being a drunken loudmouth and it stopped short of a racial slur...then DK does have to just suck it up and walk away. For me, that is the line.

This - if he appeals, he'll prob be available for the Cleveland game, lose the appeal, and be suspended for the Ravens. We need him more for the 2nd game.

People have gotten too comfortable running their mouths because they dont fear getting punched in the face.

There is 6 receivers with over 20 targets. DK ranks 5th on the list with catching percentage...... so just because he's targeted most, doesn't make him the best like you want to imagine in your head.

Not that I disagree. But a player has to know to stay away from opposing fans.
