The next time you post something that even my weakest student wouldn't understand would be the first. That I think your argument does not hold up to reasonable, fact-based analysis does not mean I don't understand what you wrote. It means your argument is weak and you presented it poorly. That you try to cover it with weak ad hominem arguments does not help your cause.

Because I'm bored enough to play, let's do this one more time.

The Steelers blew it. I don't doubt that the plan was to acquire Metcalf to replace Pickens, which was stupid. It hurt the 2025 Steelers in multiple ways. Pickens is a better player. Yes, he is a selfish, immature jackass who would have done something infuriating at some point this season, but Metcalf is also a selfish, immature jackass who did something infuriating. I get that the Steelers were fed up with his nonsense, but that's where Tomlin needs to step up and do his damn job. If he has to have two sets of standards, one for Pickens and one for everybody else, do that and tell the players to get over it. Jimmy Johnson openly played it that way, and he is in the Hall of Fame. That you and I may find Metcalf easier to like because his selfish childishness manifests differently is irrelevant. He still hurt the team. His moronic actions in Detroit did more damage than Pickens ever did.

So the Steelers got the weaker player. They spent more money on him. They had to do without him with the season on the line because he is a selfish idiot. They also cost themselves a second-round draft pick that they could have used to make the team better in 2025 and beyond. They are not better off with Metalf, a third-round pick in 2026, and a swap of Day 3 picks than they were with Pickens and a second-round pick in 2025. Anyone looking at this honestly and reasonably would rather see the Steelers with one more useful rookie and a stud receiver who is actually available for the final two games of the season.

I think you are too caught up in which guy you like better to see which option would have been better for the team. Do I think Metcalf is a better guy? Sure. I also thought Roethlisberger was a piece of ****, but the Steelers were better off because he was their quarterback for a long time. James Harrison bashed in a door and the mother of his child with a phone. Kevin Greene was known for being a dick to fans. Greg Lloyd had a reputation for treating team staff poorly. Do you think the team should have gotten rid of those guys sooner as well?

Beyond all that, they had an opportunity to do something even better. They could have kept both guys and adapted the offense to their talents. Maybe someone should have reminded Tomlin that he made exactly that sort of decision when he first became the Steelers' head coach, sticking with Dick LeBeau's defense instead of his own favored approach because it was the best way to utilize the talent on the roster. Smith has run an offense with two highly productive receivers before. He somehow managed to do it with Ryan Tannehill. I think he could have done it with Rodgers.

Hell, they could have gone with Metcalf and gotten another good receiver to go with him, but they were too busy bargain hunting and trusting scrubs who shouldn't be NFL starters. How did trusting Roman Wilson to step up work out?

Just to recap, these were their most prominent options.
    1. Keep Pickens and Metcalf.
    2. Keep Pickens and their No. 2 draft pick rather than trade for the lesser receiver. Even better if they go get a solid No. 2 receiver.
    3. If they insist on being stupid enough to make both trades, at least get another viable starter to pair with Metcalf.
    4. Do what they did, trade for Metcalf and fail to get a second option, a choice that will leave them with Austin and a bunch of veterans they got off the scrap heap for the biggest game of the season.

If they had followed any of the better approaches, they would have clinched the AFC North already. They might even be higher than a No. 4 seed. Instead, because Metcalf is such a selfish idiot, they missed their chance to lock it up against a team that entered last week's game with a 3-12 record, a team they beat easily with him. They are most likely going to lose to the Ravens Sunday night and miss the playoffs, mostly because their offense doesn't have enough talent at wide receiver.

Cue a disrespectful response that demonstrates you can't argue any of the above. Have a lovely evening.

The general consensus among psychologists and psychiatrists about people who need to have the last word is that they're either arrogant, or insecure, or angry, or egotistical. Couple those traits with a need to show power or control, and a not-so-pretty picture emerges.

You do keep responding even though you clearly have nothing of value to say about the topic.

Go on. Do it again, or run along.

Gotta love someone thinking getting me to argue makes him some sort of psychological mastermind. There's the irony.

Time for those who lost this argument to run along. The Steelers blew it by dealing Pickens. They blew it by not acquiring a viable No. 2 receiver. The inability to respond to any of my arguments in a valid, thoughtful, and fact-based manner is proof that I'm right. Since I didn't quote anybody, anyone who takes this post personally is being paranoid.

Let's see if this one works, too. Go Steelers!
