both Hines and Bettis were on Mike & Mike this morning. Bettis doesnt think there will be any coaching changes after this season even if they stink. i though he just said the offense should be blown up. i guess he knows how the Rooneys do business.

Ward said this is the worst oline he has seen in a long time.

some interesting thoughts from 2 former Steelers that still watch this team.

Hines also said on the NFL network that we have no leadership on the offensive side of the ball. Pointed to Brown's celebration when we were getting blown out as an example of what's wrong with this team. He said if he was still playing he wouldn't have allowed that

I loved Hines as a player. But now every comment he makes about the Steelers seems to come back to the fact that we got rid of him. Maybe he has a point. But it's difficult to tell when it always seems to end up with some point about how it would be different if he was still there.

They shouldve took Hines up on his offer of playing for the league minimum. He was a leader and those young guys need that right now.

Again, I think the world of Hines as a player. And yes, he was a great team leader.

The problem is, all that "young money" stuff started while he was still here. A lot of the "lack of leadership" stuff started while he was still here. The issues this team has would not be solved by one player.

Hines is right about Brown and his hot dog antics. Who needs that when the team getting blown out with it's poor offensive play which he is part of.

Yawn...same Hines same comments. The Steelers let him go because his performance declined. This team being 0-3 has less to do with leadership and more to do with a lack of talent at key positions.

exactly. I get tired of these former players thinking they know whats going on. its not like hines was lighting it up his last couple of years. I remember when I went to a game in the burgh a few years ago and the pats were beating us. hines caught a pass in the fourth, got up and made a first down signal in front of defender. got flagged and ended drive. not that it mattered we were beat but point is he is the last person who needs to be calling brown out

I think it would be different (for the better) if he were still in that locker room.

People get way too riled up over this stuff. That's what they're paying these guys to do. I saw one of Hines' first interviews when he left on a national broadcast and he said about 10 times "I can't say anything bad about them, those are my guys." Chill out people.

So Bettis said last week that they need to "blow" it up! I took that to mean, the coaching staff mainly. Now he says that no coaching staff changes should be made. So he means "blow" up the team, then I guess that means getting rid of a LOT of players if he feels the Steelers should "blow" it up! What the hell does he mean?

I took it to mean- I'd dump the playbook and let Ben run no huddle.

well if he cant say anything bad about them, why is he? I am not riled up. just don't understand why people think just because they have a microphone they have to spout off. former players are the worst

Hines is right, I was getting upset at Brown too, we are getting our arses handed to us and he is there celebrating when we are behind.

I'm not big on the celebrating, however, I'm going to give Brown a pass. They guy was having a huge game and was playing like he was on fire. Maybe a few other players need to play like that. This team needs some stuff to feel good about at this point. I would feel good if I just had a career game, too. Maybe it will rub off and some of the other players will want something to "celebrate". Just how I see it right now!

This pretty much sums up my feelings as well Jim... People want to complain about how the Steelers seem uninspired. If it would help I would like to see them all celebrating.. Just win baby

Aye. Celebrations can help to pump up the crowd. Plus, it was an amazing catch. Sure, Brown showboats too much, but cut him some slack.

It isn't like in soccer where the game clock keeps running when the ball isn't in play...

He's not really saying anything bad about them. He's offering a critique (that I don't think is wrong). Celebrating when you're 0-2 and getting your ass whooped for a 3rd game is pretty stupid in my opinion.

I think they are struggling to find a way to bring energy to the entire team. They seemed flat in the first 2 games. Perhaps he's just trying to get everyone fired up.

When we went to the Super Bowl against the Packers, Ward was the #1 receiver. The next season he was still on the team and they went to the playoffs and lost to Tebow. Then they got rid of him and....the team has done what other than lose games?

I think he and the Bus have an idea as to what is going on with the team. Perhaps not know exactly, but they probably know more than all of us.

Me too. I heard him say a month ago that this team is very talented but will need a few seasons to reach it's potential. I doubt he is now saying to blow up the team.

Except for Hines it always seems to come down to the fact that he isn't there anymore.

If, like Hines, you want to pin our current state entirely on the fact that one WR was let go, when a) we were (and to an extent, still are) not short of supply of WRs and b) said WR found no takers in FA, then I suppose that's your perogative.

It doesn't really matter whether Hines says it or anyone does. Claiming our problems are down to one specific thing is over-simplfying things in the least helpful way.
