I'm new on football message boards so just wanted to make a quick shout for all of you.

I'm from Germany, so I had to bring myself into football, because football isn't the no. 1 sport over here.
But I want to defend us here a little bit, because there are many football fans in Germany but they may not collected in groups.

So I have to order NFL GamePass every season to watch all the Steelers games live (Have also ESPN America, which broadcasts the "top" games of every weak to europe. So most of the time I have to listen to Troy Aikman and Phils Simms and crew). On sundays the games are starting close to primetime at 7pm. So I'm waiting a whole day to see it. I mostly hate when the steelers have late games so they are deep at night, but as a Steeler fan you may stay up till 6am and you can stay up and go to work at 7am :-D Good there is only a Steelers game once a week. I would die while staying up 2 or 3 nights in a row.

I was only at 1 NFL Game yet. Was the international Series in London Patsies @ Bucs... Hated to see Brady win :frustrated:
That european rookie tailgaiting was a good start to the game. Hopefully in the future i have enough money to come over and see a home game of the steelers.
I have this 100 Things Steelers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die book and going to see a home and AWAY game is a must. Sadly i may not get a football from Hines, so i take the other 99 things

If there will be ever a international game here in Germany and the Steelers would come over to be the AWAY time. You may come over to see what its like to cheer for football right here.

So long and thanks for let me sign up here. Wasn't able to make it to the official one.
    :herewego!:

Welcome to the board. Good to meet you. :drinks:

And it is always cool to meet fans from other countries. We take football for granted over here. But most Europeans just don't take to it. They'd rather watch their football (soccer). The closest sport over there to our football is rugby, but even rugby fans don't seem to take to American football.

So, I'm curious. What got you into American football in the first place? And how did you decide on the Steelers being your team? :) In the states, we usually pick based on geography, or family roots, (some based on who was popular and/or successful when they were young, etc). But it would be very interesting to read it from the perspective of someone who didn't have any of those ties necessarily.

If my math is right, you're about 6 hours ahead of us, right? Playoff time has got to be rough on you then. 10 pm start this week or so.

I think I first noticed football watching some highlights of the NFL Europe. The last days of that league almost every team was located in Germany. Remind also JH92 was a NFL Europe player once.
So my birthday is on 5th of febuary and that was the day of SBXL. I had a day off at school the next day so I decided to watch that game on our local television (the championchip games and the SB were broadcasted on our tv too). I really liked the sport but was so pissed off the time it takes to start the next play or even worse the time during commercial breaks (our provided didn't send us to commercials so they are talking about the game sending live pictures of the field). I decided to never watch football again that day. But I already said I liked the sport, so I followed the NFL per internet only checking results and reading about the history of the game. Once tasted I got poised again and watched the NE - IND Championchip Game followed by SBXLI... Hesters punt return on opening kickoff :superman:

That was the day I followed every game I could get. At first through ESPN America broadcasting the games most of you see with no directtv, now with GamePass (its 250$ a season) watching every Steelers game.

And for the Steelers part. SBXL got me 2 team names. Seahawks and Steelers. But that game didn't decide my favorite team.
These things decided it (not in priority order):
A strong team history where a team is a team and not a single person stands for success (im a teamplayer)
A city which is worth living (sorry for you guys in detroit, i didn't like your city crime rate is too high, i also didn't like your gun law either, but thats just a political issue, you guys might not like german politic either)
My favorite soccer team is Borussia Dortmund. There is a project called PiDo its a city friendship between Pittsburgh and Dortmund and their team colors are black and yellow, so my blood is like that.
And a strong fanship because the fans of my fav. soccer team are very loyal and might be the best soccer fans (there is nothing standing with 30000 people on once section of the stadium singing out loud)

And yep we are 6h ahead so the game is at 10pm just like i wrote it at "A POSITIV THREAD" in the Steelers forum. Long day upcoming. I usualy take a day off work after SB to regenerate, because this day get me everything (us food, us drinks, etc.) I try to get some Bud Light or Coors for that game but 24 bottles are around 50-60$ to get here. Hoping for a Birthday SB with the Steelers.

That was a cool read. Thanks. :)

But this part has me perplexed. You live in a country with some of the best beer in the world. Why buy that swill? ;)

Dont worry im usually drink german beer. There are 2 things you cant discuss with germans and thats their beers and their cars. These 2 things are best over here. But for that special day I would love to be all american. I want to take a seat in my steelers room (I dedecated a full room to our team. Logo on the wall with pictures and a 86 jersey) and just enjoy the game.

:) I see. That's like when I was living a far way away from Pennsylvania, I'd special order Iron City or Rolling Rock for games just to feel like I was there. (I don't recommend either) But if I may...

Bud is no longer an "American" beer (they shouldn't even be allowed to call themselves "beer"). I'm not even sure if Coors is. The only reason either is popular in the US is they are cheap, and advertise like hell. I'm not sure which American beers are even available in Germany. But next time, see if you can find Sam Adams. It's not quite as good as your good stuff, but it's a lot better than Bud or Coors. :)

Or Myron will tell you: If you want to be American for a day, get some bourbon. Right, Myron? ;)
