They used to (maybe still do?) have short films on NFL Network where players would show you around the training camp facility. I think Ward did it for us - and it was a lot of fun to spot what players were doing in the background, get a sense of what they did with their day, etc.

From what I've seen, Hard Knocks is a little more geared towards spining out narratives and making it all much more televisual (if that makes sense), so wouldn't maintain the fun of the shorter, brief glimpses. (Not sure if that makes sense.)

IMO the Steelers would be BORING on Hard Knocks for non-Steeler fans. Every team has some drama and diva behavior, but we have far less than most teams. Hard Knocks is really for teams with big problems, big egos and/or big question marks. Of course, since I was only able to take 5 minutes of one episode a few years ago, I may not be the best expert...

I don't get the hate either. I do get the distraction issue. I would Love seeing the Steelers in an inside angle never seen before. In meetings deciding who gets what reps and who gets cut or gets a roster spot. Watching the asst coaches working with players.

I'd Love it as it would satisfy my football and Steeler appetite, if but for a moment during the lull in games.

I'm so glad that the Steelers have never considered being a part of Hard Knocks and never will after being approached numerous times by HBO. Hard Knocks is a joke and a total circus. The Steelers don't need to be a part of a circus and the off field drama that comes along with that in front of the cameras. They focus on playing football, not reality television.

As the Chief once stated, concerning being lableled America's Team, "We didn't want that, we're Pittsburgh's team. We feel strongly about that."

I actually enjoy watching the show. I like the narration and how they focus on the rookies and guys who are trying to make the team. You get to see alot of the behind the scenes stuff that doesn't always look like it would make compelling story telling but I have to say every season I have watched and had to see position coaches or management talk to a guy on the bubble that they are being let go was very compelling.

I am sorry but the distraction argument is just weak, what distraction, you have a film crew following you around for 4 weeks? how is this different from having news crews, news paper journalists, ESPN crews, NFL films crews and the teams own video team following you around for 20 weeks? I am sorry but if having a camera on them makes these guys totally lose focus how the heck do they play on Sundays?

The not wanting people to see how they operate I can buy into but only to a certain point, the rest I believe is trying to maintain the integrity of the Steelers brand. IT is one thing to see a clip from the 70's or the 90's and see Lambert or Lloyd cussing someone out, totally different than having players and coaching cussing throughout an hour episode. I think Gunther Cunningham may have set the record on the Chiefs HK. So I can see where the Rooney's might be reluctant to have anything put the team in a negative light like that but come on we all know they cuss and it doesn't bother me.

Guess what I am saying is I would love to have them on it but if not I can live with it. If they never do it can we at least get Liev Schrieber to narrate an hour and half special after the season is done?

The show is not bad if the team is intresting.I think I read somewhere the teams that were featured went on to have bad seasons that year, maybe its a coincidence like the Madden cover.

I read that the Steelers usually get asked every year including for this year & they always immediately say NO. Impressive that HBO still asks every year, "Just in case"
