I think they could handle the 3m, but that still leaves a big hole in an even bigger place in depth at safety. Leaves a lot to be desired either way, go with UG3 and hope what you saw in those few moments he was healthy is enough and see if you can find depth at safety after the cuts, or go with Williamson and go with what you have at safety....neither inspires much confidence going into a 17 game season.

Was it Sean Davis? I also remember that game vividly...I had Keenan Allen in Fantasy Football, I was laughing / crying at the same time...I always watch the Steelers games with one of my Brothers, and I remember us both yelling at the TV saying WTF are you doing Butler!!!!!!!!!!

They will miss Vince’s experience even if he wasn’t going to start. Devin Bush’s Twitter adventures are an even bigger worry now that he is the de facto leader of the group. This really isn’t ideal.

Agree they need a safety as well. If they take a chance on one position or another it’s virtually guaranteed that’s where the injury big will bite like it did at ILB last year

Steelers gave him a choice imo.
Looks like they think they don't need him.

This is bizarre, I wonder if he was told he’d have very limited snaps. Basically James Harrisons roll his last season.

They might have told him they will be rolling with Spillane.

I’m sure more details will come out, one of the beat guys will have something.

    Story in the title.

Look a few post down on Spillane but who's ready for the tandem.

    Spill-Bush inside!

Love the story of Vince stealing the playbook in rookie minicamp to make sure he could study up and make the team.

    Crazy eyes will be missed

What if they had an idea he was going to and "did right" by brining him back. He's been nothing but steady.

I don't know man, I still think Vince had a year left in the tank.

If I was Tomlin, I would tell him to stay in shape incase the phone rings.

He probably could have given the year and contributed but for $850k after everything he has already given I totally understand the decision to step away. He was underpaid and possibly felt a little under appreciated. Only he will know the reasons but from a distance I could see why he’d feel that it was time.

Then bring him back for 1 day to retire. They need depth at ILB and camp starts today.

Bush is the only good/proven LB in that group. You're just throwing names at the wall, hoping something will stick.

spillane is capable. killebrew is capable. UG3 has shown he's capable if healthy, so no i'm not just throwing names at the wall. do you watch the games at all? do you do any study on players brought in or just say how bad a guy is right off the bat? VW was nothing special.

Capable of what? Spillane is too weak to fight through the wash in the run game. Hopefully he bulked up. He's the starter by default. Killebrew has 4 starts in 5 years on the Lions - he's a career special teamer. UG3 is a camp sensation made of glass.

They brought back Williams to play in front of all of them.

Wrong, those were Shazier (and Bush last year) "replacements". And they largely sucked.
