Ok, first all the best players are on everyone else's roster, and now your telling me all the best coaches are on everyone else's team? Make up my mind for me please. Believe me when I say I'm not a fan of the bubble screen because I am not. Any screen going anywhere other than to a running back has no place on the field, and that should only happen a few times a game. Having said that, I don't believe that makes our OC a bad coach. As with every team in the NFL, including the immortal Patriots (who have already beat us this season), some days the play calling sucks, some days the execution sucks, and some days both suck together. Happens to everyone. But sometimes it all falls together, the stars align, and it is a thing of beauty. Those are the football moments you live for!

THe only time I really struggle with play calling is in the beginning of games. I think they call some safe plays from a script to try to figure out what the defense is doing. Which is maybe a good way to do it. My problem with that is I put a ton of importance on scoring first. We should call the best plays to help us score quick. Get ahead of the other team. A QB that is playing from behind is more prone to mistakes, taking chances that he wouldn't if he was in the lead. I would much rather see a hard running attack, then a short passing attack early in the game. Ultimately with the team we have I do think we need to pass early to run late though.

I also really hate when they are 3rd and 12-18 or so and Ben throws the ball on a quick slant 4 yards down field. He does that even if there is not a blitz coming. I do not know who should take responsibility there, but I do think that are team is good enough to keep those drives going. We need to keep more drives going as our D was darn near out of gas at the end of the Browns game. Sometimes I fell like we give up a bit on those down and distances. I guess i would rather see Ben take a shot down field, and if it gets picked its just like a punt anyway.

Not sticking up for Haley, but don't you wonder how many play's Ben changes? I'll bet
it is quite a few. We haven't sniffed our potential on offense for the past 2 years, with the talent we have
on that side of the ball we should be scoring some points don't you think?

As for red zone offense, somebody really needs to sit down with Haley, Ben, Tomlin and teach them
a lesson in red zone offense. THEY STINK.

    2 point conversion is a HC's decision.

I might be crazy here making this assumption....but maybe, just maybe Tomlin and the entire offensive coaching staff were involved on making the plays and deciding when to call said plays. I know that's probably a crazy idea that the HC might actually be involved in the play calling and game planning. Anyone with a clue would know the OC makes all of the offensive decisions. Tomlin just watches the game unfold like the rest of us. He likes to be surprised to see what Haley came up with.

Either half the people here have never played football in their entire lives or they just hate the OC no matter what his name is. We've been running WR screens with regularity ever since Tomlin became the HC. I'm not saying its' a good or bad play to use...I'm just stating facts. Pretty sure the buck does stop at Tomlin. Pretty sure he's involved in the game plan each week. If he didn't like the idea he could tell Haley to call something else. I'm also pretty sure Ben has some say..and can also call audibles. Maybe Ben was instructed to stick with the plays this week cause we're playing the browns? Maybe not. We will never know. If Tomlin has that kind of arrogance against a team like the Browns then maybe we just figured out why we lose $hitty teams with regularity?

To be fair most teams calling no huddle catch the defense off guard

    Sure is.

However, it is the players who need to execute the gameplan, Big Ben, offensive line or otherwise.

Off-topic, but does anyone remember that game years back when Arians was OC, and we were running up the middle over and over for no gain, and the camera caught Tomlin shouting across to Arians "THROW A PASS"?

    I'm sure I didn't imagine it.

Nope I got good play calls. Way back on the board we all were locked out of I said Dagone whoever it was then. Run Willie.
    Willie middle for 2
    Willie middle for 1
Willie to the left for 40
    And that happened

I really like the crossing route play that Bryant ran for a TD. An easy over the middle throw while the receiver is at full stride. It is nearly unstoppable.

We need to do that much more often.
