If I recall correctly, we did not run the QB sneak very often, if at all this past season.

Given that it's been very successful across the league and QB's like Brady do it on a regular basis, can anyone give a reason why TH and/or MT have opted for telegraphing our run plays when we have the best QB for this type of play? We do not have the Oline/FB of SF, I mean we have Beachum playing LT.

Idk what our down and 1 conversion rate was this year, but I don't think it was bad. I don't think we "under used" the QB sneak either. While the quote in blue definitely points towards more sneaks, you can't just sneak it every time you get into a down and 1 situation. Doing so wont lead to many (if any) more first downs, points, wins etc.

Maybe they don't call it because Ben stinks at it.

first thing you have to do is get your line to push the defense back. I don't think that has happened in a few years

Maybe Ben doesn't like that play.

I don't think Ben is good at the QB sneak. I don't have any stats to back it up, but that is the sense I have gotten in the past.

Partly because Redman and Dwyer have done a good job as short yardage backs in the last couple of years. I remember we ran in one or twice when the Steelers were in hurry up and Ben quick snapped it. My thought is if it isn't done quickly and you allow the pile up from defense and offensive lines there is a chance of getting him hurt because guys are tearing at the ball and his hands etc. There is a lot of crazy stuff that goes on in those piles.

How many times did we witness the oline get blown up on short yardage plays? I remember watching Bell on a 3rd and 1 getting hit just as he got the ball, running QB sneaks with the oline we had on the field during the first half of the season would have been equivalent to running an end around with Big Snack as the ball carrier, it just wouldn't work.

That's exactly the point. A weak OLINE, especially one with weak Run Blocking T's will have RB's be hit in the backfield. But for QB sneaks, the QB dives forward before the T's can even be a factor. Listen, 88% success rate across the league over 4 seasons including all good and crappy Olines.

And why would Ben be particularly bad at it? If he's difficult to sack, presumably he would be good at diving forward.

I'm glad this past year they didn't run it. For most of the season, Ben was our only player, didn't want to get him hurt. Rather punt.

When is the last time you've seen a QB get injured on a QB sneak?

Most short yardage runs by QB since 2000: Brady with 95. How many injuries did he sustain?
