It's officially official then. :) I don't see the official Steelers announcement posted anywhere, so I think your thread is fine.
    Here's a link to the announcement~

This will prove to be an excellent hire in time IMHO.

Can't wait to see the 7th different play called which will total more than Arians had over the past couple seasons.

I am one who is pleased with the hire. I think we need the Fire and Emotion that Haley will bring to our offense. You need to be held accountable for your actions, and Haley is certainly going to do that to the players. (I may be eating crow in a very short time on this one, But i think he suprise alot of people)!!!

Should have been Fichtner. Team moved the ball fine, only needed some tweaking to get the damn ball into the endzone. That said, I think Haley is just a stop gap, as someone else pointed out, he was a HC and will most likely get another opportunity. I believe they are keeping the seat warm for Wilson, the person they really wanted.

From the announcement in the PPG :

"The Steelers have gone outside their organization to hire an offensive coordinator just three previous times since Chuck Noll became coach in 1969 -- Joe Walton in 1990, Ray Sherman in 1998 and Kevin Gilbride in 1999. None of those coordinators ever made the playoffs in five combined seasons with the Steelers."

Here's to hoping that doesn't hold true this time around :praying:

If we don't make the playoffs and baring any catastrophic injuries, I'll be leading the mob with pitchforks and torches, and every FBAI proponent better be right behind me!

I'm not sure why the the PPG guys (cook, dulac, bouchette) all seem to have a stick up their a$$ about the BA firing. I really haven't seen one article that doesn't end up with a negative comment like "none of those coordinators ever made the playoffs in the five combined seasons with the Steelers". I'm pretty sure Kevin Gilbride just helped win his 2nd Super Bowl with the Giants... sometimes timing and personnel aren't right. The media guys seem to think they should be running the Steelers organization... but they forget they are just journalists. I'm not sold on Haley, but I'm optimistic that things will change for the better.

Yeah, I've read in multiple places and heard on tv that the Steelers are nuts for letting this guy go. Don't they know he won them a Super Bowl???

We have top 3 offensive talent and a top 21 offense. I don't see what's so hard for them to understand.

Despite my bashing of Haley, if he gets us to put points on the board like he did with AZ that would be sweet, then maybe I'll warm up to him. Winning cures all :dancing:

That is not accurate. Cowher hired Ron Erthart in 92, IIRC he was from the Giants. The Steelers made the playoffs all 4 years he was the OC, including making it to SB XXX.

No matter how bad things get, I won't be calling for a coaches head after only one year. A coach needs more than one year to be judged fairly. It's more than possible that with a few injuries here and there, a tough schedule and a few players having a down year (it happens in sports) that we could quite easily miss the playoffs. While I will be quite upset, I wouldn't be shocked if we missed the playoffs next year. We have a tough schedule next year, and although with the talent we have we should make the playoffs, nothing is guaranteed in sports, especially with the parity in the NFL these days.

I've read this a lot, that all our offence needed was tweaking, and I think that's giant load of BS. That's just my opinion though. We have top 5 talent for sure, yet we were 21st in scoring. That's absolutely not okay and requires far more than tweaking. The fact is we didn't run the ball effectively at all. We needed an entire new system as it pertains to running the ball. That's more than tweaking. We didn't use Mendy in the passing game, despite the fact that he showed in College that receiving the ball is perhaps his best weapon. We didn't use Redman in short yardage or goal line situations. We didn't use our TE's much at all. We used a useless TE to block instead of a FB, despite the fact that we didn't use him in the passing game at all. We didn't use screen passes to the RB to slow down the pass rush. We rarely used draw plays to slow down the pass rush. We didn't use play action effectively. We didn't use motion except for the sake of using it (ie it accomplished nothing when we did it). We went 5 wide far too often in short yardage situations.

I can probably find more things wrong with our offence. To me, we need far more than tweaking, we need an entirely new system, and apparently Rooney agrees, despite the fact that Tomlin is too inept to see it.

He actually improved KCs O...in his 2nd season there they had an awesome O...this past year injuries added up and they tanked...not his fault. If he can bring the Steelers O up to the levels he did in AZ and KC (2nd yr)...then I'd be happy.

Last year, KC lost their best tight end in the preseason (he's a better pass catcher than Miller), then they lost Jamal Charles in the second game so no sufficient backup with break away speed was on the roster at running back. They acutally had and still do have, a subpar O-line to ours....yes, I said it! Also, he had Matt Cassell and then Tyler Palko to work with at QB. I LIKE OUR CHANCES with Haley and what he could potentially do with our offensive weapons. No comparison to the Chiefs but plenty could be made with the Cardinals.

Well I think it's BS that the offense needs an overhaul. If you are going to throw around the 21st in scoring stat then you have to accept the 12th in total yards, that means they move the ball between the 20's and struggle when the field shortens in the redzone. That to me is tweaking, so I stand by my statement. And if you thought this place was a zoo after going 12-4 and making the playoffs you haven't seen anything yet. There will be plenty calling for Haleys head.
