I think the nail in the coffin had already been driven. That game was likely the first shovelful of dirt.

when we played BA ball, we lived and died by the big play. now there's nothing wrong with big plays but we need to be able to drive the field and end in a TD. big plays will come, but it can't be the staple of our diet.

So it was basically one of those situations where you just don't change horses midstream. I kinda felt that way too. It would be really unRooney like to do that. I always think it's ridiculous when teams just can a major cog in their operation right in the middle of the season. When has someone ever totally changed the fortune of the franchise for the team in that situation? And even if they think they'd just like to evaluate them in a game situation they surely will still be using the same system that just killed the guy before them.

I concur. Plus, Manning in Indy had a team finely tuned to his skills. Now, he is one of the best QBs ever to play the game, so I'm not saying that he'll instantly forget how to throw the ball. But playing him Week 1 is likely better than playing him later in the year, when he's either settled properly, or he's been broken in half and Caleb Hanie has blossomed into the all-star every head coach secretly has nightmares about.

In terms of using the run to set up the pass, as PWP was talking of... yeah, if we win the battle at the LOS then I can see us keeping them on their toes with Dwyer and Redman, and not moving away from the run if it's working. At the same time, I'm slightly nervous about whether we win that battle, and also the extent to which the Denver LBs would ever over-commit to the run.

The extra second that Ben really needs is that second between the ball being snapped and him lying in the turf. If that doesn't happen (and there were points in preseason where it didn't), it's going to be one of those close-run nail-biters that we all absolutely love and are in no way shortening our life spans considerably.

Protect #7, And get pressure on Peyton and force turnovers.
If they do these few things then the Steelers have an excellent
chance to win this game. Do you trust our OL? Enough said .

if we put ourselves in situations of having to make plays constantly on 3rd down we will play right into the broncos hands. overusing the run game has seemed to do that in preseason. that is my concern with this offense so far. it puts our line in a tough position. it has to be mixed up to keep the rush off ben.

LeBeau needs to turn up the pass rush not like that crappy gameplan in the playoffs vs Tebow.
