Honestly, I thought Joe would be a Cap casualty last year

The biggest slap in the face wasn't the hilton loss at this time but getting rid of Nelson and keeping haden which was injured most of the season again. He could have still been here and re-signing Witherspoon would leave us in good shape this year. We again made the wrong choice. Don't make the wrong choice again hoping the old guy can help us one more time. Witherspoon should be at the top of the todo list. Then draft well and work with Pierre. Sutton to the slot.

Hilton was overpaid based on his previous production.

Witherspoon is mediocre at best and has peaked.

    There may be better options.

I wouldn't re-sign Haden, he will be 33 next season, his play is declining.

Hilton at the time was the top or the second best slot corner in the league. Still is. Witherspoon was close to a shut down corner for us. His stats were quite good for his time here.

Witherspoon is slow and if he looses his man at the line of scrimmage he’s gone. I watched him live repeatedly.

I’ll stick with my personal observations on Hilton.

Haden is a quality CB and still has skills, but his age and injuries makes him a risky signing and at a cost that can probably be filled by younger, faster and cheaper options. Am I saying this is the right thing to do, no way of knowing what the future holds and how it will play out, so teams use history and experience to determine when its time to cut bait. Unfortunately this may be it for Haden. I too appreciated what he brought to our team and he will be another hole to fill, but I think the organization was already preparing to do so.

witherspoon had 37 targets against him and gave up 14 completions. a 37.8 completion percentage. that's pretty darn good. he gave up 1 TD. he's a 4.45 40 guy. not that slow. he had one bad play while he was still learning the defense. everybody keeps harping back to that play and yes it was bad, but after that he was money.

And all of that is nice if you are grading him by watching the game on TV and reading stats. How many games did you go to last year?

I sat there live with binoculars and watched him. He can’t cover in man coverage. He looses a receiver after 5 yards on a slant then the ILB has to chase him and gets blamed for the catch.

He’s mediocre. We can use a mediocre back up at a mediocre back up salary.

And don’t say he’s learning the system, He has 5 years of experience.

And in that defense guys that play every snap for years are still confused in it. By the way the stats he has don't just come on the tv. You do realize that in some defensive sets you have man coverage only so far and then your guy is passed into a zone. I still think he's well worth keeping. You can have your own opinion and that's fine heh bird but the league says otherwise on his play last year and the play of hilton.

Just to be clear, I thought Hilton had a good year for Cincinnati last year. I also believe if he had played that well his last year with the Steelers, he would still be a Steeler.

He can’t cover man to man. That’s my point. I watched him.

Are you thinking of going to any games this year? Last year I kept looking at your seat and didn’t see you. :drinks:

Hilton can't be asked to cover one of a teams the top 2 receivers on the outside every time either. he's a slot guy that's really good in the run.

Haden may have lost a few steps, but he had top outside corner instincts.

I can't see Joe Haden returning. I think they go youth with the draft.
Tomorrow is legal tampering, I'm curious if they make a move early on.
I don't expect a "blockbuster" deal, but one never knows.

This team is years away from being competitive (assuming we draft a QB who pans out) no need in tying up money in older players who only have a couple years of production left.

We are by far the least talented team in our division going into next season.

Would hate to see him go in a lot of ways because he's still solid when healthy. The problem is he's getting older and not able stay on the field as much as we need him.

We kept Ben too long, can't keep paying older players and not upgrading the position.

I agree, and I don't. I really see both sides of it.
Really it's what makes Us a Great organization, and sometimes a bad one. JMO
