Well at least Haden left that dumpster fire organization and had a taste of playoff success here.

Sounds like a drunk text to me.

As much as I like Haden and his contributions I feel he should part ways. I'm sure he wants to get a last cash grab.

Witherspoon came on when he was injured and played above the line and should get a contract offer.

I love the guy, he can still.play, but you can't invest a lot of cash in a declining 32 player. Saw a comment another place about transition to S. First he would have to desirecthat, second it's not always that successful. It's a totally different mind set and position.

Would not be shocked if it was it for him. I personally would love to thank him for his services and expertise on a position that the team has not had much success since Ike Taylor left. He is the best one since him and has done very well. I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

That said, I would love it if the Steelers were to resign Ahkello Witherspoon. He was a bit lost at the beginning but became a very dependable, if not lockdown capable Corner, by the time the season ended. For that matter, signing onto Ahkello would do wonders for the team heading into the draft as the priority can be lowered a bit; still drafting early but not likely within the first two rounds.

They still need him and his departure will hurt the team. I know he is older but they should not make the same mistake as they did letting Hilton go.

If he is being unreasonable with his contract demands, that’s one thing but the impression I am getting is they aren’t even trying to retain him.

    Exactly. I don't like it.

Maybe they are actually targeting a great FA Cb not on the radar??

Unless your a superstar or franchise qb, Steelers hardly ever give players a third contact unless it is a hometown discount.

Plus we already have a great free safety and he’s not big or strong enough to play in the box. I would love to keep him as a CB, but for compensation appropriate for a corner who is aging and physically declining. Any year he could lose enough speed and “twitch” to no longer be able to man the corner spot, and it is risky to give him another multi year contract.

I love Joe... his ability is sliding but he is still above the line

His leadership will be harder to triage than his skills

I would tell him go see what your market is.. and let us know

I think the plan all along was to resign Witherspoon and get a FA or draft to be #1. Haden said good bye at the end of the season so I think this is a mutual decision.

Don't understand the Hilton reference. Hilton was in his prime not 32 years old and piling up the injuries.

Seems like Haden was a game time decision every week last year with a long list of nagging injuries. Getting a year older is not going to help this.

The thread title says it all for his current gametime status. "Haden Out?"

I'm sure he thought the Steelers were gonna negotiate back and forth and they just cut it off right then and there. Given previous dealings with players, he should know better.

The Hilton reference is they let a good player go without even trying to keep him. I mentioned the age difference. We will still miss Haden like we missed Hilton last year.

Sad thing is that last season they had an opportunity to extend him lower his cap number without restructuring in a low cap year and have more certainty heading into a year where they would have lots of cash and simply didn't do it. I'd understand it if they announce a stunning extension for Minkah next week but this is just strange.

Maybe for someone else. He’s not replacing Minksh at SS and he’s 20 pounds light for SS.

The Bengals offered him a contract with a $4M signing bonus + $4.5M the first year ($5.5 cap hit).
Why would Hilton take your hypothetical contract, when he was given a better offer by the Bengals?

They also were still negotiating with Watt when Hilton left, so that probably made money matters more complicated.

some confusion there, I was referring to Haden wanting an extension before the start of last season.

He said he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh then he quickly reversed course and said he wanted to go FA. They may have planned to move on. They may have done what they typically do and told him to go see what he’s worth.
