Sounds like Gruden is off to the Raiders.

I'm just thankful I don't have to listen to him anymore on MNF.

Good move by the Raiders though.

I think the Raiders are just satisfying the Rooney Rule.

I heard for years that Cowher was coming back so I'll believe it when I see it.

I liked listening to Gruden. I would have liked for him to be the coach of the Steelers

The "Rooney rule" is a good thing, except it's this easy to get around. Davis knew who he wanted weeks ago. So, just bring in some minority off the street, give him lunch, ask a few questions and let him be on his way. "Rooney rule" satisfied. Doesn't seem right!

That's what people said about Tomlin. Only they brought him in and he ended up being an awesome interview. The Rooney rule at least gives guys a shot. If not for, it we may have missed out on a great coach. No way Russ Grimm could have done what Tomlin has IMHO.

I agree but, how is it giving a minority a shot if everybody and their brother knows you're going to hire Gruden?

Yup. Preparing a 10 year deal for him.

I like Chucky. Im sorry to see him go to the Raiders though, would have preferred him in the NFC.

I just looked it up. 7.5 million. Payton and Carroll both make 8 million(?) between them, there's 7 SB titles and Gruden is worth more than these guys?? Realistically, he only had 1 great season!

I have never liked Gruden and am not about to start now. I am glad he is with the Raiders my most hated team. Much easier to hate them both together.

I don't think the Raiders had nuch to lose. Been irrelevant since 2003. If they had the money to spend, so be it.

I do question whether Gruden can coach in today''s NFL with today's athletes.

I can see his shtick getting old real fast.

The players hated him in Tampa. People think Haley is bad ...Gruden is worse!!

We'll have to wait and see..maybe he'll act a changed man until something sets him off back to his old self. I used to call him the Cowher wannabe

Exactly. In the Tomlin case the Steelers didn't really have a certain candidate in mind. And while I have my issues with Tomlin, I don't think Russ Grimm would have lasted long.

I think in the Tomlin vs Whiz vs Grimm argument, the Steelers made the right choice.

If you remember though they told Whiz he wasn't even in the running and that he could leave. They were supposed to bring in Rivera and didn't even bother. I always wondered what would happen if he was Steelers coach.

The Raiders are gonna pay $100 million for the coach they traded to TB? I’m glad they are so stupid. We won’t have to worry about them for a long time.

I think I read the contract is loaded up on the last 5 years. The first 5 years is roughly 25mil. Then they could make a change without too much up front. But if he does well, Nevada does not have income tax, so he would rake it in.

Eleven seasons later, he is behind Don Shula for most wins within that span.

    I concur the same.

But the fans adored him here... and that counts for quite a bit in owners' eyes.
