Unless I didn't hear it correctly, he was saying that you can't coach and be afraid of being fired and then went on to list great coaches who have been fired, Landry, someone else I can't remember and then Noll.

Really Chucky????? I sure hope you just misspoke and don't really think he was fired.

He is an overated Dick! The Emperor forgot more about football
than most coaches will ever know, including our current and past coaches.

Well let's be honest. Everyone knows there was a discussion and he decided to retire.

It's the same thing that happened with Bruce Arians, except he didn't really want to retire and they made the mistake of coming out and saying he did before he could put his statement out. The 80's were tough in the win/loss column.

I heard him say that too. His list was Landry, Shula and Noll. I don't remember Noll being fired?!?

I was only 19 when Noll retired, but I don't remember there being any animosity with him leaving.

Maybe Chucky meant that he fired himself?

If by fired he means given an upper management desk job for life atop the Steelers organization then ok. I forget his exact job title but it was way upper management so Chucky maybe needs to put the egg nog down.

I just now saw this thread but I heard him say that and I was like "Say whuuuuuuuuuh???" and then I was like "Well maybe he did and I just didn't know about it" so I actually pm'd TTF to ask him if he heard that and of course he knew that it wasn't true. I knew they didn't give Coach Noll the BA treatment.

On the BA ep of A Football Life his wife actually does say that he told her he had decided to retire "after" the Rooney's fired him but then Chuck Pagano called and offered him the Colts OC job.

80's definitely were tough, but the team was still regarded as one that would make you feel like you were in a football game.
