Seeing as we have 4 starting defenders who all have groin strains/injuries I thought to look this up.

Looks like a mild groin strain requires 3 weeks of rest. More serious could be 6 weeks. A tear requires surgery and is a 3 month recovery. Looks like we'll be missing Watt, Haden, Tuitt and Bush for at minimum 3 weeks.

To have a chance to win games the offense will need to step it up. 17 points a game isn't going to cut it.

Oh wow. I was wondering this also. So can we pretty much assume we will be without Bush, Haden, and Watt on Sunday?

Hopefully it’s that simple pulls and don’t turn into surgery scenarios.

I’m thinking of a LB in the 90’s that ended up needing hernia surgery?
    It drug on.

It's guaranteed. Maybe by some miracle they will only miss 1 game and not more. But the groin is an injury you want to heal completely before you come back, lest you risk a more severe strain or even tear.

I don’t play them against Cincy this week for sure. The bottom line is you better be able to beat the Bengals even without some of these guys. I’d rather have these guys long term and for the games the next few weeks as opposed to rushing them back this week and them getting hurt worse.

I don’t know, but they sure kick you right in the groin area.

Funny a lot of the sports shows were talking about how every player out there has a groin strain.

I have gone through most of them in the Gym: 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months. They all felt exactly the same when it happened.

Never needed surgery, just a visit to my doctor, pain killers and then rest.

To be fair, when I clicked on the thread I was expecting the OP to say "IT TAKES SEVENTEEN YEARS TO RECOVER"

So I found his diagnosis more positive than I thought I would.

Funny didn't Alex Highsmith have a groin pull before the 1st game, yet He played that game , and the next. I've only had one , and I did it on Ice ,pulling a calf out of a hole it fell through about 25 years ago. Only one I ever had.

Sorry, but no. The only thing that possibly makes the Steelers better than the Bengals is the defense, but that simply isn't the case if five starters are out. Tuitt is on IR for at least one more game and Alualu is likely out for the season, so they would be missing five starters again if those three can't go. They are likely to lose to most teams in the league with that much of the defense missing.

Better to be healthy down the stretch than right now anyways. I'd rest as many as we can and still blitz Burrow. He is a deer in the headlights right now playing in the NFL.

The stretch isn't going to matter if they don't get some wins now. This is the easier part of the schedule. If the Steelers do lose to the Bengals, which is absolutely realistic if they are missing five defensive starters, 1-3 is a strong possibility.

    Dr. Lava disagrees.

To be fair, we don't really know what is going to happen with any of the injured guys. We can research those sorts of injuries all we want, but we simply don't have enough information.

They have a week 6 bye, after which the schedule gets even harder. They can't afford to take anyone lightly. If they don't have 3 wins at the bye at a minimum, they're not a threat to make the playoffs.

until we know the severity of the pull we won't know how long TJ will be out. The facts the OP posts are factual. I agree this guy looks at the negative all the time but in this case why attack him for posting reasonable facts? I expect TJ will not play this week against the Bengals. I'm hoping he misses only one game. Here's a link about TJ's injury you can feel free to look at. He wasn't limping badly when he came off the field so perhaps he misses one game.

carrying all that money from each game check to the bank every week could cause groin strains, so this may be an ongoing problem.
