Great Steeler pitchers from the past

Fellow Steeler fans, I am not even close to the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to today's technology. I will describe what has come into my possession. All are 8 by 11. Great black and white photo of the Steelers front 4 from the 70's. They made the cover of Time magazine back in the day. Great color photo of Mean Joe Green making the move on the Houston Oilers. Couple black and white of John Henry Johnson (go back to the 60's young people) and great color photo of Rooney holding SB trophy with Cowher and a few others in photo.

Now reason I'm posting this is because at this point in my life they would just collect dust in a folder that I would never open. Hate to see them go to waste because they are of excellent quality. So if anybody would like to have them for your man cave (or woman cave) I'm going to leave my e-mail address here and you can e-mail me your address and I'll send them to you free of charge.

I'll be away from computer for the next week but as soon as I get back I'll check my e-mail to see if anybody wants them and mail them off to you.

This humorous Malaprop aside (pitcher/picture - both pronounced the same way in Pittsburgh), it goes to the root of what outsiders think of our Pittsburgh-ese way of talking in that they say it is brought about by a "lazy" tongue to form our unique dialect. Example, the 3 words - pool, pull and pole are pronounced identical by Pittsburghers because of the way we relax our tongues on the base of our mouths rather than to form a "U' or raise it to the top of our mouths to properly pronounce these 3 distinct words. If I don't think about it, I pronounce all three as "pole". As in, I "pole" the door open; "I dive in the swimming "pole"; and, I used to "pole" vault. This, of course, is even different than the strange words or phrases we use such as gum bands, pop, red off the table, and of course, yinz. And the funny thing is, you never lose this way of talking - I've been gone from the Burgh since the mid 60's (19 not 18) and my Daughters still make fun of the way I talk. Of course being out here in Cali for 50+ years I've picked up a few local ones - and that's "fer sherr".

 

Haha my wife was behind me and told me I had the wrong word in there but then she said it won't matter football fans can't spell. She hates football and I'm glad she was proven wrong.

When I was very young and moved to upstate NY, some of the other kids thought I had an English accent. So at least some places are "lazier" than Pittsburgh.

 

You got that Joe. The closer you move into New England (especially Boston, of course) these people (my late Wife included) all talk like 5 year olds who've never heard of the letter "R" or can't pronounce it. Funny, on the West Coast when a kid talks like that, it's called a speech impediment and they send them to special classes to correct it but in New England it's considered noble.
