We didn't have a #2 WR, we haven't had one all season long. We could not overcome that against the Pats. This is less about Brown and more about Bryant. We also lost Bell almost immediately, giving us one above average weapon. Easy peasy for the Pats, they didn't handle the Falcons who had multiple above average weapons so easily.

James, Williams, Green (waste of time), Coates, Rogers et al are complimentary weapons at best. Coates season ended in week 5!

#2WR, #4WR, #1TE - between them they had virtually no impact on the season at all, and we still made the AFC title game!

Gronk is not a WR he is a TE who can play the slot or out wide..He can not be schemed like AB can because he can play any receiving spot and can also stay in and protect the passer ...Gronk can also run block very well from any of those spots as well...This allows Coach Bill to call a pass or a run from any formation he wants with Gronk on the field with either having no drop off ...A WR does not allow for that and that's exactly why the Pats don't pay the WR position...

They paid Moss 27 million/3 year contract. 4th highest receiver at the time.

Only 27 Mil total and how many years ago was that ? How did the rest of their roster look at the time? How much different WR was Moss compared to AB ?

If we had all we needed and AB was the one piece to get over the top then ok...If we had the depth like the Pats did in 08 then o.k...We have starters that should not even be playing in some spots...I contend and always have if we pay a WR that much this day and time you better have the rest of the Team stacked and ready for a big run..The only unit the Steelers have ready is the OL ..

We can pay AB and field another weak D and have a decent year and get bounced out of the playoffs again and then Ben will be gone and AB'S overall value to the Team will be much less ..

2008, 27 million but 9 million a year. NE pays their players, they actually set the market alot.

We can pay AB and field a good defense, its almost there already.

I hope you are right , but I think we have a long way to go on Defense and we need multiple players to make it happen..I think we need at least 3 Starters and at least 2 higher quality bu's on Defense ...This draft is stacked with Defensive guys and we actually could use AB to change this Defense for a Decade....With a strong Defense and a running game we have a better shot to beat NE than we would with AB and a smoke and mirror Defense..

The window is now, AB helps in that regard.

Burns, Davis, Tuiit, Hargrave, Heyward, Shazier, Bud are all players.

Need another CB, edge rusher opposite Bud, ILB, some depth, I think we are a lot closer than you think.

We'll see but need to strike now while Ben is here and removing AB weakens them too much offensive, IMO.

I see your point and you could be right about how much AB would be missed...I just think I would be going Defense as the Pats ran 6 DB'S or more 80 % of the time this season .. We are far from being able to do that IMO ...I agree with needing the edge rusher and another CB , I also think we need a different guy at Safety as well...

    What a nonsense response.

Gronk is a WR for exactly the reasons you describe. Regardless of labels, he meets the definition of a team's #1 receiving threat.

Brown continues to play all 3 WR spots in our offense.

Brown can not play TE...He can not block great on screens and swing passes...Brown is not bigger than a LB or a Safety like Gronk is...Brown can not stay in and protect the QB on a pass play ...Gronk has more overall value than Brown mainly because he has great use in both the passing and the running game ...The O can be Multiple AB does not make the Steelers O the same plain and simple..

Ben had a great game vs Pats.

If Cobi didnt drop a TD, catch one after he ran out of bounds like a bonehead... he wouldve had 3, didnt DLo catch 1? But couldnt run it in.

If we executed better, we couldve won in a shootout.

Ben did not cost us that game but he was far from great. Great would possibly have won the game. There was only one great QB on the field that day and he won.

    66% Completion Percentage
2 Cobi Hamilton ****ups in the Endzone
    314yrds
3 dropped passes.. if they were caught wouldve gave him a 81%.

Wouldve gave him 3Tds and 1Int that happened off of another drop.

Ben was literally the only player on our offense having a good game.

We wouldve won if Cobi didnt drop 1, and went out of bounds to catch another and DLo got the ball in at the 1.

    We lost by 19.

    1 td = 6
    Extra point = 1

3Td opportunities missed and an extra point.

    22 point.

    Steelers 39
    Pats 36

Haha I'd love to see the specific article you misread to believe a team runs Dime 80% of the time.

Post a link, I need a good laugh

It's easier if a receiver is bigger say 6-2 220 to beat double coverage than it is for a smaller receiver at 5-10 180 to beat it............

This kind of after-the-fact math is never right (unless you're talking about a single do-or-die as time expired). If Hamilton had caught the first TD pass, it would've influenced how NE (and PIT) played thereafter.

    Butterfly effect, my man.
