i get it dude, it's your thing to take a different stance than most everyone else in these threads.
But all the Vick talk is going to do is get people fighting.

I don't know is Grad is better than Vick, but I know he's at least not worse. And if those are the two choices I'll take Grad! JMO

Did you watch Vick in the first game against the Ravens last season, he couldn't complete a pass to win the game.

I'll say that I'm not all warm and fuzzy with Gradkowski and Landry. Unfortunately, the Steelers may be.

It's so strange that you said that. Vick's completion % and INT % last year were much better than his career. Vick took good care of the football. Also his passer rating was only half a point off his career average.

Vick is fragile or he would be a good backup.

    Tebow>Manziel>Gradkowski

That's the thing tho. Grad IS that pitiful. He's proven that over the course of his entire career. You said Vick's last 3 seasons were horrendous.... If you averaged the 3 you would still get a 55 completion percentage and a positive TD/int ratio. Grad has never completed 55 percent of his passes in any season, and has achieved a positive ratio only once. In other words, if you average the last 3 years of horrendous play by Vick... You get a stat line that would be considered Gradkowski's best statistical season.

I watched Vick play this past season. It wasn't really pretty. By all means he's basically done. I just don't see a compelling reason to believe that Gradkowski will be any better... especially coming off an injury that cost him an entire season it's hard to imagine him being anything but worse than Vick was.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here. We have Grad and not Vick. I'm just not as comfortable as others on here with that. That's all.

I hope the young guys on the roster are able to unseat Landry and gradkowski

Vick has had some big games but he will be 36 next month. Take a few MPH off his running game and he is adequate at best. Heck, he couldn't even hit simple out patterns last season.

Nice cherry picked stats, guys, and meaningless.

Yay, Vick protected the football, heres a cookie for him. Meanwhile he couldn't complete a 5 yard out.

No, SG, Grad never completed 55% of his passes, just 54.7%, huge difference there, huh. But since we are going to post irrelevant stats, Grad had a 66.7 completion percentage in the playoffs, something Vick has never done. See how that works? By the way, those 2 completions had them poised to score until they stuck Ben back in and promptly threw an interception. Grad looked better on those 3 drop backs, then Vick did in all of his last year.

And lets take into account who they played for? Grad played for Tampa, Raiders, Cleveland, and Cincy for a career 52.9 completion percentage while Vick played for Atlanta and Philly most of his career, teams much more loaded with talent and finished with 56.2. Again, huge difference there? Even with more talent to play with?

This is silly, dont hide behind stats, tape doesn't lie, Vick was awful last year, I've never seen Grad play that poorly and until he does for the Steelers, you can't make the claim he is worse, its baseless.

    But, whatever :beathorse:

If Landry Jones can't beat out Gradkowski then he needs to go... but I can't see that happening.

Well... I will always have a different opinion because I'm mostly objective. And many people agree with me. SGSteeler in this thread and I are on the same page.

And yes Gradkowski is worse than Vick and just about everyone else. You know he's a bad QB when Sanchez and Tebow tower over him statistically.

Gradkowski hasn't thrown a TD since 2011... when he threw one.

He's just not good. Gradkowski does know the offense and the FA QBs aren't very promising but I hope the Steelers upgrade in the next couple of years.

So Blast can I put you down on record as saying Gradkowski is a good QB?

    Laughable. ;)

    So could this guy :zombie:

Blast I don't agree with that, there is no way Vick protects the ball. He fumbled so much and the thing that covered it up was we recovered a lot of them. I was a vick backer until I watched the game where guys would just breathe on him and he coughed it up.

To be honest with you we don't stand a chance with either so here is what I do. Make Jones the back up we are done without Ben anyways. Look for a young guy to get cut during preseason A name I would like to watch is Aaron Murray from KC. Loved this kid coming out if it weren't for injury I felt could have been one of the best in the class. Anyone we pick up then would be better then Grad, jmo.

I only remember one ball being coughed up, which we recovered. I remember thinking the only good thing he did was not turn the ball over, something that plagued him during his career. Everything else about his stint here was horrid.

Maybe I am misremembering the number of turnovers.

Lets face it, Vick, Grad, L Jones, are all bad back up QB's. Like someone said probably the worst in the league. This is disheartening in that the way Ben likes to hold the ball and looks to extend plays he is vulnerable to sacks and injuries. We should have a vet that can carry us for a few games. I don't think we have one on our roster. Please don't bring up Landy Jones's is good.

I was never a fan of Vick being signed in the first place based on his injury history and fumble history as well as his struggles to throw to the right side of the field (where AB is.)

He's still better than Gradkowski hahaha.

I'm pretty sure everyone would like to see improvement at backup QB but of course that is an expensive position and also many decent QBs would be unwilling to play in Pittsburgh where they will 100% be sitting behind Ben barring injury.

All the Steelers can do is sign journeyman veteran QBs. It is the best option. Let's hope Ben stays upright.

Ben will go back to getting the ball out quicker with a healthy Bell back in the lineup, I don't expect him to get hit as much as he did last year. You're clinging to Ben of years past with the extending plays stuff, doesn't do that nearly as much as he used to.

Landry has shown to me that he can do a good job, he continues to learn and improve. He came in and saved one game for us, playing very well. He wasn't nearly as bad as people make him out to be in the KC game but definitely was not good either and the Cincy game, give me a break, that was a dumpster fire to come into. He's learning and improving, all you can ask for.

I think both Jones and Grad are capable of winning a game or two, any extended absence of Ben will be bad regardless of who we have as back up.

I hope your right, since that's the only options we have. I will be cringing on every sack of Ben.

After last year, I don't feel that Vick can win us any games. He's done. It remains to be seen if Landry can take his game up a notch but I really don't want to gamble on him either. Both are bad options for us. If Josh Mccown become available, I'd be much happier with him then either Landry or Grads.

I can't nail the game down but I remember he could hold the ball and I remember cause I was one of the guys that didn't mind the signing of him. I can give 2 ****tts about the whole dog fighting thing, I just thought his movement would give us the best chance to win without Ben. I was wrong and this guy is washed up, I wish I could remember what games they were but I am pretty sure he put the ball on the ground a bunch.

Ok, so I searched, and Dustin Vaughn is my new favourite player.

Reminds me of @Iowasteeljim@Iowasteeljim in his playing days. And there is no higher compliment.
