He's taking over the Buck position so Shazier can be Mack, and he says he feels good about it. It means more contact with offensive linemen, and less running in space. It's not that much of a change, though. We all know how often Foote and Farrior were running in space, and it was more than we wanted. Now that guy will be Timmons.

He's also making all the calls now. I know that was a real sticking point with people before. It's worth noting that he did it some last year, too, and did fine.

He's taking on a leadership role, and could be the defensive captain.

"The first day I got all the calls right, just like I did last year," said Timmons. "I'm just excited to get out here and show what I can do."

"I think I did pretty well for a guy who, in the first game, heard 'Hey, you gotta do this,'" Timmons said. "I pretty much was a little shaky at first, but then I got used to it and then I started becoming a mainstay at making the playcall."

I've been rooting for Timmons all along, and I've been defending him and singing his praises since the 2008 preseason. I think there could be an awkward adjustment period, with a new position and a new partner, but the future seems bright for this team at ILB. I feel better about Timmons and the position than I have in years.

He was so fun to watch in his JR year at Florida State. Even early on in his Steelers career when he wasn't a starter, I loved seeing him come on to the field. Him and Shazier in the middle is going to be a treat!

That was a good read. As to the playcalling, it's worth noting that he did it from Mack, which is a lot different (and more challenging) than doing so from Buck.

"Yeah, I called it from the mack," Timmons said. "Vinny (Williams) was the buck last year. I'm the buck now. You are in the box more. I'm going to attack the center and the guard more. I'm not playing in space like I used to. I'm more in the box now. We're going to let Shazier and his speed go out there and cover in space. I'm covering the tight ends and the backs to the flat, so I still get that, but I'm going to be in the box more."

Come game day, Lawrence Timmons will be our slowest, least athletic inside linebacker. :lolol::dancing:

I believe there was some debate when Foote went down on who was calling what from where. From what he says, he was the man making calls from the mack. A lot was made about Williams calling the plays as buck, but what we see here is that Timmons was wearing the earpiece and making calls since the buck was changing depending on the play call.

I think Williams was mostly responsible for lining them up.
