Gong Show Host, Chuck Barris, passed away

Yes - a wacky guy - he also hosted a late night game show "Make Me Laugh" where contestants had to keep a straight face while comedians joked and cut up right in front of them (Gallagher smashing watermelons etc). It was a riot and all improv. All these Senate and House hearings remind me of the Gong Show - just wish someone had the big hammer to strike some of these nutcases down.

 

I'd be worried about now if my first name was Chuck with the last name initial of "B" - Berry...Barris......

My screen hero Charles Bronson checked out many years ago so he's not in line.............

 

I just read about this. I used to watch the Gong Show with my dad all the time when I was a kid. I always loved the Unknown Comic and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine.

 

Wasn't he involved with the CIA or something?

 

Loved all his shows. Especially the Gong Show! JP Morgan, Rip Taylor, The Unknown Comic, Gene! A real poke in the eye to "serious" game shows!

 

Alex Trebek would beat the crap out of him though. I mean hosted Jeopardy AND Classic Concentration. Only Let's Make A Deal can even compete with that.

 

I don't know, I was always partial to Win Ben Stein's Money.

 

That's what I mean. Trebek takes himself and the show WAY too seriously. He's a pretentious p***k! The Gong Show didn't take anything seriously! Granted, Chuck was nuts.............

 

Yeah man that show was AWESOME! Also Beat The Geek ruled as well. They were both on Comedy Central.

 

Just remembered - Chuck didn't host Make Me Laugh - I believe it was a guy named Bobby Van. Oh well. Chuck was still certifiably crazy.
