I started playing when I was in 10th grade and have been a lover of the game ever since. I grew up in Armstrong county and played a course in Butler county in high school, so I learned how to play every type of lie in the game. Although I have taken a couple long breaks from the game, I still love the camaraderie.

I am not a bucket list type guy but when I was young I played with a few old guys who could occasionally shoot their age. It has become an obsession for me now. I turned 70 a few weeks ago and two weeks prior to that I had a good day and shot 70 (1 under par) but that doesn't count. But it's coming!

Of course I play from the senior tees now because I can't hit the ball out of my shadow at noon due to some pretty serious back problems. The course I play most is 5500 yards from the senior tees and there is nothing too tricky about it other than wildly sloped greens.

My biggest problem now is that I play with a bunch of younger guys and the beers and birdie bumps make it difficult to finish a good round.

You need to join up with Steel Machine for Golf chat over on the "Other Sports" thread. I once shot 70, which wasn't bad for me for the back 9.

I was on my way to a round below par the other day, but then what initially looked like a perfect putt ricocheted off the base of the windmill right back at me… the frickin gap was too narrow.

Golf, hands down, my favorite sport. Best I ever shot on a real course was an 83. Work consumed to much time when I was young and then growing old and injuries screwed my game. I was blessed when a 18 hole Par 3 course was built 4 miles from my house. I pretty much live there I've been told. Have to walk it but it's flat and there are benches on every hole. I play it about 250-275 days a year. I'm a member for 750.00 a year. I get my money's worth. The 18 full swings are not hard on my body. I've only parred the damn thing twice. A ton of 3-4 over par and 20-25 times I got to last 2 holes even or 1 under par and blew it. I just had my 11th hole-in-one the other day.

    I have a love-hate relationship with golf.

I love the camaraderie that can come with the game, and I genuinely appreciate the architecture of a well-designed course. And don't forget the 19th hole. But after a few holes of play, I quickly get bored. So I say: spice golf up. Put some big boulders right next to the greens and watch that little white ball bounce off them. Instant entertainment.
