He'll be the hardest to keep because he'll want a 1-year deal, with no cap flexibility.

Is Van Noy a cap cut? The Dolphins are supposedly 25-30 million under the cap and they cut him one year into his deal? And statistically he had one of his best years.

    I don't get it.

Haden and Nelson both have 1 year left on their contracts.

Sorry I must’ve mis read your other post. Yeah it’s pretty unlikely they sign any big-name free agents.

well why not make this defense even worse by losing 3 good corners and bring ben back. it took them years to get a decent secondary what a friggin train wreck.

But, it makes sound financial sense to do it and sign Cam Sutton. Haden's still a decent player, but it's tough to justify $16 million for decent.

This is what I've been trying to wrap my head around since it was announced Ben wanted to play in 2021 and the Steelers were willing to bring him back. They are saying they think they can win and Ben gives them the best chance to do so. Fine. But they don't have draft capital or cap room to restructure his deal and resign key UFA's (JuJu/DuPree), let alone bring in impact UFA's from other teams. Bottom line, what they are saying and what they are trying to do makes no sense. It is financially prohibitive for the team to even remain status quo next season. They are not going to be as talented as last year's squad and they are playing a tougher schedule. They will be lucky to finish 8-8 and yet they will still be looking at a mountain of cap space to clear, plus potentially looking for their next QB.

Kaboly says it’s because the Steelers are waiting for the cap announcement, why push more money into the future that you don’t have to, makes sense but I think the owners probably know what it is or a pretty good idea of it, whatever gets announced isn’t going to vary greatly.

I think they are probably trying to get Ben to take a pay cut and that’s the holdup.

You don't get back $16M if you cut Haden.
    You only get $6M.
Haden being a more than decent starting CB is justified with $6M.

I believe...MO..that he's a little better than decent. We mainly only see when he is bad, but the more I've rewatched last year, the more I think He's still good. Yes he has lost a step, but his intelligence more than makes up 4 it. IMO

On the Pat McAfee Show, they talked about how Van Noy was genuinely excited to be in Miami, and wanted to be a vet mentor to the other players.
If Miami was willing to burn dead money to get rid of a quality person who was also a quality player, other players are going to wonder what that team is trying to do.

See, my knowledge of the cap is limited. If that's the case, then I agree he is worth keeping around for $6 million. As far as Vince is concerned, I don't know what he counts against the cap, but logic dictates that if he is used in a similar fashion as he was last year or even the last few years, there's no value to keeping him around. If Hilton goes, what is the chance they keep Nelson and Haden who are both under contract, along with Sutton?

    Sites like OverTheCap help.
If you go their link for Haden, you'll see that actually the number is $7M (his salary), not the $6M I've been saying.

The important thing is ignore dead money (same whether he is on the team or not), and look at the possible cap savings.

I think this pretty much sums up the issue.

Steelers need to draft well this time around.

I always say NFL kickers should form their own union. Kickers score the most points in the NFL and a lot of times the game's final outcome rest on their shoulders. It just is not glamorous position. Think about it, a TD is scored and we go crazy, then the extra point gets a little shrug. Boz has scored more points then all those candidates above his name:)
