I don't think thats what they are admitting and while I hate that they gave up so fast on Hawethorn, this draft can still turn out to be the most special since 74, if they hit on Jarvis, Bell, Wheaton, Shark and even V. Williams whom I think is going to be pretty good, thats a kind of draft that sets you up for years of success.

Ta'amu, while disappointing they let him go, is more acceptable to me, they were more then fair and patient with him when you take into consideration his off filed troubles. I read an article that said Colbert may be shifting strategy a little, to more of a what can you do for me now as opposed to what can you do for me later. Would explain some of these moves.

they may have gotten rid of ta'amu last year after his trouble, but they said part of his salary was guaranteed so they put him on the PS. no other team was interested either.

they gave the kid a shot again this year but are not going to just wait and see if the commitment is there in a couple of years. if we had a hoke sitting in the backgroung like we did it may be an easier choice but we are in a rebuild mode and really don't have the luxuary to just wait. similar to dwyer the steelers were looking for that commitment starting last year from him not a month or two before camp started.

they know what the commitment level is on these players once they are here, but before that in the draft process it is a crap shoot like any other team has. there are rules about how much teams can get to know players while they are still in college athletics.

it's a fairly short window to find out about these guys. they have to sift through a lot of players and who they think they can draft, so until they are here, it's a big guessing game for the most part.

Ah, that would make a little more sense. I can buy into that because Ben is not getting any younger and I truly believe that with the pounding he has taken in his career he is an "old" 31 year old QB. The window of opportunity may be closing and once Ben's career is done who knows how much longer it will be until we have another QB of his caliber. I mean it only took about a quarter century between Bradshaw and Ben. Who knows how long it will be between Ben and our next franchise QB.

OK they're being crazy with these moves now. They took Blake (CB) cut Green (CB) made some moves and then resign Green to PS. All while they say they're still evaluating available players...

blake was brought in to make tackles on ST's. not for his CB play. green was kept to build on his emercency cb status similar to Victorian last year.

Oh I get that part. I had just read that he was cut, then I see a tweet that he was signed to the Practice Squad. Messing with my head.

:this!: Until I hear about some NEW information about Hawthorne (a strain of injury we never heard about, off-field or locker room problems), I'm calling that a complete botch. Either give him a chance or draft someone else. Don't cut a guy before he has a minute to show you what he's got when there's virtually no competition anyway.

I'd go so far as to say we already have hit on Jarvis, Wheaton, Shamarko and Williams. Those guys are players. Heard good things about Bell, but still have to see it for myself, and of course they have to stay healthy. Add into that Justin Brown looks good and could work his way to being an active receiver next year, and Landry Jones could always pan out (hey, you never know).

Of course it's too early to declare the draft a success or failure, but the four I mentioned pass the eye test to me, and if Bell turns out decent... that is about as good as a draft gets. Plus, they are ALL guys that can contribute right away. Jones, Bell, and Wheaton could be starters for us, and Shamarko would probably be starting on most other teams. I'm psyched.

But MAN that Hawthorne thing is going to gnaw at me. Ta'amu too, after the improvement he showed. Oh well. I guess if Colbert can draft as well as he did in rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, we should let him draft and immediately cut whoever he feels like in round 5, up to and including his own grandmother.
