We've all discussed from time to time how there was a gap between SB winning QBs (21 Years between franchise QBs) and (26 years between Super Bowls). While we were fortunate enough to have Ben since 2004, I'd say we have been in that gap or drought since 2008 (15 years). Hopefully, Kenny will be able bring it home sooner than later.

Current NFL rules make it almost impossible to win without a Superstar QB. Gone are the days of having a good defense with a solid run game for winning the Superbowl.

As in Hurts, Philly built for him to succeed.
KC did pretty much the same, though Mahomes is a different level.
I think the Chargers have learned same, though it remains to be proven.
And I guess the same formula is in Buffalo.
SF, I would have like to have seen what Purdy could have done, I think they beat Philly. (totally subjective but that defense was able to suffocate a lot of offenses in the 2nd half)
    Pittsburgh should take a tip.
Kenny is plenty competent to guide a good team into the playoffs.

    Edit
The first step is getting into the playoffs.
From there, you're up against supposedly the best...

The 49ers were very close with Jimmy G, who is far from a superstar QB. The pathway is definitely easier with a star QB, but a team can win it with an average QB if the rest of the roster and coaching is high caliber.

He played like a superstar in that playoff run and the sb. Literally outplayed brady in the sb and Brady threw for 505 yards.

And in the end the reason they lost is cause mahomes made plays and Jimmy g couldn't when it mattered most. Look how great jalen played the other day and STILL lost to mahomes.

They were a play away from winning it, so they absolutely had a chance to win a Super Bowl with an average quarterback. Why is this so hard for you to understand? Seriously, ask for that refund.

So did Joe Flacco. Doesn't make him a Superstar. Hell, Eli played like a Superstar for two playoff runs. Any team can win it, that's why they have the playoffs. As was pointed out, first you have to make the playoffs.

Flacco was a great playoff qb. His numbers are some of the best of all time. Eli was good as well in the playoffs. But nfl still is far different even just 10 years ago then what it is today.

You really are going to hurt your back carrying the goalposts all over the place like this.

I'm sorry that you lack even that basic knowledge of a game you were actually discussing on the thread. Re-watch and learn.

They weren't superstar quarterbacks. They were guys who stepped up in big moments. Flacco had some stinkers in the playoffs, too. In his first five playoff games, he threw one touchdown and six interceptions. He was a decent playoff quarterback who had one great run, yet another piece of evidence that works against your claim.

Manning had two great runs, though the first one was mostly his defense and the luck of throwing a ball up for grabs that his guy somehow caught.

The game isn't as different as you want to make it out to be. Just last season, the final score of the Super Bowl was 23-20. The game was not dominated by the quarterbacks. Just three years before that, the final score of the Super Bowl was 13-3.

How will you move the goal posts this time?

If Garoppolo hits that deep pass, the 49ers were very likely to win that game.
It was just a 1/4" away... a beautiful pass, a perfect route.. just that much too much.

Flacco is 10-4 in the playoffs with 25 tds to 10 ints. He outplayed tom brady multiple times and should have beaten him in 2 straight afc championships if not for a dropped td and a missed field goal. He was very good in the playoffs. Not just a guy who had 1 great run.

Manning had two great runs but again some guys have zero who are in the hof. He played great in big moments. Had game winning drives in each of those sbs and the second yr still has the most passing yards in a playoff run in history.

You keep bringing up 1 game as the sb to equate what works getting there and overall.in the season. So can I call jalen hurts the 2nd best qb currently since in the sb he put on a Great performance and the outcome of the sb is what dictates how teams got there and manitned success the whole season.

I discussed both jalen hurts and garopollo in that previous comment dumbass who BOTH were hypothetically 1 Play away from winning the sb so it wasn't clear who exactly you were referring to.

Also that jimmy g play happened with 1:33 left. They would've only been up 24-27 hypothetically. Lol you think mahomes is not getting into the endzone or at least a field goal with THAT MUCH TIME? He went 44 yards with 13 seconds... so no they weren't "one play away" definitively from winning with a average qb.

Idk about that. It was 1:33 left in that game and they would have only been up 24-27 if he hits that pass.

I'm not moving the goalposts. They got superstar performance out of foles. Not a pedestrian game and relied on their defense and run game.

Since 2008? Ben was a better QB later than 2008, he just didn't have the team around him. Those games where he threw 5 touchdowns...

2014 was that game against the Colts where he went off for 500 yards and 6 TDS.

Ben was really good up until the elbow injury.
