Waiting on that one. Can't understand why they're pushing the "she's afraid of them" so hard. It's a bit annoying.

I know she's soft, but if you're going to change up the stories anyway, can we get a stronger Dany that at least makes a few better choices?

Interesting turn with Sansa. I loved the scene where Slynt got what was coming to him.

Sansa's story is completely off the rails. Unless she starts baking pies,I'm not sure if I'm ok with this direction. ;)

Loved the Slynt scene too but I missed the line, "Edd, fetch me a block." Am I the only one who sort of likes Alliser Thorne?

No crap! A whole swath of stuff is left out. I'm on the fence with Sansa's story. Only thing I can think of is that was the direction he was going in the books anyway, so the brought it forward. I was hoping Cersei was going to get the business when she went to see the Sparrows though...

    Grrrrr...

NOT happy. How dare they do that?!?! :frustrated:

This show is becoming little better than fan fiction now.

To be quite honest, this season has been rather boring.

They've completely changed character's motivations and personalities.

They made Littlefinger an imbecile. (He would NEVER leave that much up to chance. Or tip his hand to the whole world so easily for that matter).

Whole plot points cut out in favor of... what? Nothing of value added.

Last part blacked out for this episode's spoilers:

And they take the greatest swordsman and knight who maybe ever lived and have him chumped by knife wielding nobodies. People who used to be lazy, physically weak slave owners. They take the most feared, trained, cohesive, and fearless military unit in the world (even the Dothraki, with their HORDE of an army, avoid them) and let them be overrun... in a chokepoint where a shield wall would be impenetrable! Cutting out all of Selmy's story to come in favor of... what? More screen time for the pale, boring, sappy, lame version of their Daario???

Other than the vision that is Nymeria Sand, the Sand Snakes are just bad. Obara in particular may be the worst characterization yet (even more offensive than Shae was). Or the actress is just that bad. Either way, meh.

A guy on Reddit claims to have seen the entire season. Now, it seems like a fake to me. But if not, I can see why Martin removed himself from the series. They're shredding his story.

I was thinking when he dies, "what a ****ty way to go out". You were supposed to be "the Man" when it came to these things.

Yeah, the part in spoilers was what I figured you were talking about, and what I found particularly brutal. I'm trying to just enjoy the show (as much as possible) as a big budgeted fanfic at this point. I hope they turn it around with the Sand Snakes...

Do you possibly have a link to the Reddit post?

I highly recommend you not read it. But if you ask a second time, I'll pm the link to you.

I won't post it. It's a tsunami of spoilers... even to book fans. (yes. If true, it even spoils the books)

I will add one non-story spoiler from that Reddit post. And why I think it's a fake: It claims Sansa has nude scenes this year.

Story wise, and considering the role they had her assume, it makes sense. But I'm still not buying it. Sophie Turner is still a teenager (19, but still a teenager), and it all just feels creepy considering she started on the show at 13.

In B4 I remember I married my wife when she was 19....

I'm with you guys on this! I was really pissed at the Mereen stuff! I think at one point I swore off watching the rest of the season. That was some stupid crap right there. Totally a fabrication that made absolutely no sense.

Baelish leaving that much to chance after going through all that to set up the endgame? Why the hell would he do that? He's no a clairvoyant, so that is the dumbest move he can make at this point. He's left all his pawns and control in the hands of others and walking back into the lions den.

Previously, on The Walking... Game of... Dead... Thrones.

That's what this show has become. To hell with the books. We're doing our own thing now. Oh, we'll hit a few highlights here and there. Major events might still happen, although the reasons, and major players won't be the same.

See, it doesn't bother me on TWD because A: I'm not that invested in the graphic novels and B: The source material isn't nearly rich enough to matter if changes are made here or there.

But they are absolutely BUTCHERING this story. Kill off Selmy but keep Grey Worm - a nobody - alive because... why? To see if a eunich can have romance?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Oh, so now it's Dany's idea to get married? What the actual f....????

Everything north of the Neck is totally FUBAR at this point.

Valyria is a boiling hell hole. They couldn't just keep those events in the Sorrows? Why? And where do we go from here with Jorah "Griff" Connington Mormont??

Sadly, those spoilers are beginning to look plausible... and it's a crime.

    I dunno, Ray. <sigh>

I sure hope Jorah's OK. I hadn't even thought of him becoming an amalgam of Griff...and someone else.

Hmmmm.... that occurred to me too. Gives them an out with his arm and he fulfills yet another role. Now all we need is a Red Priest.

It's funny... up until watching the first couple of episodes this season, I would plan for watching GOT Sunday night. The past few weeks it's been more like I turn on my TV Monday or Tuesday and see that it's in my DVR, and I say "oh that's right..." and watch it then. It's losing steam fast.

From what I've read Martin isn't writing the scripts now so he can focus on finishing The Winds of WInter.

From that it's fairly clear that he's fine with the direction the show writers are taking the story line.

He has said in the past that he has zero control over the show. They could have aliens attack and he couldn't do anything about it. He also said as recently as 3-4 weeks ago that he has a really cool story line coming for a particular character that they cannot do on the show because they already unnecessarily killed him off.

And his editor is peeved: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...oks-editor-slams-hbo-series-article-1.2214393

Look, I get that it's an adaptation and not everything can make it onto the screen. I understand the need to merge characters here and there or even plot lines. And they HAVE done a good job with that sometimes. Maybe not as elegant as the books, but effective enough. But when they scrap good characters or story lines in favor of filler and fluff, get basic world building facts wrong, or over-simplify things to the point of caricature, that gets me boiling.

I also think George finally realizes he let his own story get stolen out from under him, and has now decided to buckle down to finish it his way.

Personally, I couldn't care less what the editor thinks. It's probably a good thing that the show is steering away from the books because it can't spoil anything GRRM has planned. Enjoy it for what it is, a decent television show loosely based on a set of novels. Has there ever been a movie etc based on a book that is actually better?

Lord of the Rings. ;) (And then they ruined my good will with the god awful Hobbit movies)

Movies on par with the books if not 100% page to screen:

    Godfather Trilogy
    Jaws
    Shawshank Redemption
    True Grit (either version)
First Blood (despite the ending change)

HBO's Band of Brothers - even with 10 hours - couldn't possibly fit the entire book into TV format. But to this day, it may be the best 10 hours of TV ever made.

But to your other point: that's the thing, it CAN and WILL spoil the story. Only we're going to get a watered down, ultra-convenient, rush to the end spoiling. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch. :) And if he ever gets the last 2 books out - even if I'm spoiled - I'll read with gusto because it'll be a richer story. I'm just a little disappointed they've gone so far off the rails. They were doing well the first 3 seasons with few exceptions.

Nope, they butchered the Lord of the Rings. They were doing fine until they threw the third movie out with the ghost bomb winning the day. (mumbling something about the Ents and Hourons.)

Got to agree with Band of Brothers. They changed who said a few things and added the story about Blithe, but other than that it's right on the money. Even though I know the whole series, I can't not watch it.

There's absolutely no reason (except money) they couldn't use the material already in the book and stay a little truer to the source material if they wanted 7-9 seasons.

The story actually had momentum. Not devoting 100 pages at a time (equal to about an hour's worth of filming) to describing every blade of grass and each individual leaf on a tree in a simple 10 mile walk. Ugh... that book is so overrated. Tolkien never uses a sentence when 5 chapters will do. Great story, but way too tedious at points. People complain that GRRM gets too overindulgent at times. They may have a point. But Tolkien was far worse.

And I don't care about Tom Bombadil... :innocent:
