Gainwell to the Bucs...

    That would seem to be how it would work. Almost an inversion of Warren's role from the 2025 season.

    Warren has demonstrated success on screens and little check passes to the flats in previous seasons. That is what the RB is asked to typically do in MM's passing game....at least in the GB salad days.

    Warren should be able to do that just as well as anyone else.

    Lost in all the good things that Gainwell did is that he really isn't all that good at running the ball.

    Warren isn't a true lead back. The coaches know it. That is why he backed up Harris. That is why they didn't give him a lead back's percentage of the snaps and touches last season. Letting Gainwell leave and signing Dowdle seems to be the coaches seeing Warren's limitations and strengths.

    Different coaches. Different POV. Be interesting to see how it shakes out.

    I think Gainwell’s Bucs deal would’ve paid him the same or slightly more than Warren. Steelers have a long standing pattern of not paying the “backup” more than the “starter”.

    It does seem this way, but the only way to know for sure is to see how they , a different regime use him.
    So time will tell.
