Yea, Mike, and let's just note that NO team has signed you, so you are perceived as a POS - you suck.

Mitchell should have been on IR and spared us the misery. The backups would've done better.

Once again coaching was a failure, they see a player struggling playing hurt but they continue to let him play, I get tired of harping about coaching here but they continually hurt this team with their poor job performance.....

Was it Boston who was talking about how FA safeties were getting undervalued and this was why some relatively big names were still unsigned?

Keeping that eye on Malik golden and Jamar summers. Both can play true FS. Hilton and Sutton can play some FS too. Probably not in a scenario where you want these guys doing it every down but in the mix to continue keeping offenses guessing and rotating players in and around will be confusing to offenses. I do really think that's what this defense will be this year. We have players in place to do this.

I like that a lot of competition has been brought in, I think we will see
a much different secondary than what we have seen the past three years. My fingers are crossed.

They liked golden last preseason until his injury on an interception. They did sign him back early this year. If nothing else a guy to keep in waiting on the PS similar to Dangerfield just in case.

When they could have signed Tre Boston on a 1 year deal for 1.5 M with 1.5 mill in incentives, the best and cheapest FS on the market, another stupid lax judgement by the front office:

After leaving Carolina, Boston signed a one-year deal to join the Chargers, which ended up paying major dividends. Boston broke out in 2017, posting a career-high 79 tackles with a staggering five interceptions 8 PDEFs. Despite his season, Boston was not retained at year's end.

I will be curious to see what Boston got from AZ, details have not been disclosed that I can find. Especially after he called their first offer disrespectful. I'm betting it is in that 5-6mill range.

Davis had 90 tackles, 3 interceptions, 8 passes defended and a forced fumble. He also added 12 tackles in our playoff game.

    :hmm:

I am less intrigued about the criticism of Sean Davis but more intrigued about Tom Bradley's role in Sean's development.

That being said, give Bradley a chance to assist him. When we begin to hear negatives regarding Davis, then and only then should we worry. Keep in mind Davis has been playing musical chairs during his first two seasons. Going back to his natural role, rather the role he was best at during his tenure at Maryland, should assist him; Bradley being a multiplier of sorts.

R-E-L-A-X. Let us simply enjoy the fact that football is back. Let the stories write themselves as the days pass by. Worry then. Plenty of training camp to praise or critique.

Davis, himself, here is saying this is his first time playing FS. So maybe you should R-E-L-A-X on players backgrounds...

Boston wasn't coming here for that type of money.

The Steelers missed an opportunity to take advantage of Boston's situation, but it does make some sense. That would mean pushing Davis to a bench role and basically giving up on him emerging as a quality starter.

That said, the idea that Davis had even a decent year in 2017 is laughable. People keep tossing it out there, but it isn't true. Pass coverage from the safety position was supposed to be his strong point, but it really wasn't and he continues to take terrible angles in pursuit against the run. The real hope there is that Bradley can straighten him out.

Regarding Mitchell, I'm really not interested in his excuses. Does he even have a job for this season? He was absolutely horrendous in 2017, arguably the worst starting safety in the game and a huge reason why the Steelers came up short.

How many for Boston? I'm just pointing out that the numbers are comparable to Boston. Boston also did it as a free safety. Easier to sit back and have the play in front of you. Davis was near the line slot so yea misses are probably higher but he also made more.

The missed tackles is a team wide thing and has been for a couple of years now. They better fix that stat.

Cam Sutton and Mike Hilton have taken a rep or two at Safety but it seems to be more of a "just get your feet wet" thing in case they need to fill a spot if injuries really take a toll. Plus add to the versatility I'm sure.
