Mitch signed last year to be the backup for 3 years for $33 million including incentives. Why would Mason sign for anything less?

I still think Mason needs a rich incentive based contract like they gave Mitch last year. If he turn out to be the backup then he only makes $5 million, but if he is the starter, and does X, Y, and Z then he gets his $11 million per year.

And, this is nothing but Dulacs opinion. There was no source, or no one from the Steelers was contacted for this answer. Just pure BS coming out of Dulac's mouth.

Spending money =/= having a good team around you. The LAC are one of the most horribly mismanaged teams in the whole league. But sure, they spent money... his team must be awesome.

He will sign for less if no one is willing to offer him that much. His market is what teams are willing to pay, he can ask for or expect more than Trubisky got but that doesn't mean he will get it. I just don't see a scenario where an NFL team other than us offers Mason much more than 5-6 million a season to be their back up (let alone start). An incentive laden contract could be very beneficial for us, but I don't think we need to get 11 million bucks aggressive with Mason.

He can sign or go into real estate but he’s not getting a 3 year 33 million offer I guarantee you that. Mitch was still thought highly of when he got that contract. Rudolphs 4 game stint isn’t going to persuade GM’s to offer him that much money.

I would say incentives are good also.

There are some quality free agents. Improving the team and the cost of doing business is another issue. The Steelers need to work out financials with some of their own "key" players.

Because he may be offered less

And that is more than he can make selling real estate

But I could certainly see an incentive laden contract here there or wherever he signs

And guaranteed money will be a big factor

I only care about the achilles injury last season. If thats good, hes better than anyone else the Steelers have not named Joey Porter.

I don’t think he is better than Darius Rush or Corey Trice. I don’t believe we’ll get the chance to find out.

    Thats a wild statement, lol

White isn’t better than two guys that have done absolutely nothing? Rush has made most of his living on practice squads so far and Trice hasn’t played a down yet.

Other than White the Bills have also released Safety Jordan Poyer and Center Mitch Morse. Morse has been the Bills center for the last 5 years and has started 87 games in a row including the playoffs.

The Bills have just cut 2 Pro Bowl DB's and their starting center for the last 5 years and now they sign Trubisky. I don't think they are moving in the right direction.

Buffalo released him a few hours ago. He was pretty good, but is 29 and coming off an achilles injury. I know we got Joe Haden at a similar age, but for defensive backs it is the law of the Serengeti. An animal that becomes half a step slower, does not eat or else is eaten.
I have mixed feelings about him.
Ironic part is that they are signing Mitch Trubisky. I guess as long as he just holds a clipboard and looks thoughtful he can’t do much harm.

Your guarantees towards Mason don't count anymore after you guaranteed years ago He would already be out of the league, and now not only is He still not out of the league, but people are looking to sign him.
So now You have to go to a different player to Guarantee about. LoL

Nope! He was on his way out, said so himself. Steelers threw him a lifeline.

My guarantee was once the Steelers were done with him he would be out of football, that he was on the same path as Landry Jones.

Rudolph hit FA and no other team wanted him. I was right about that, just didn’t count on the Steelers letting him crawl back to them.

Well, the Steelers could've used a safety like Whitehead when they faced Allen and the Bills in the playoffs this past season.
