To be fair, you're presenting a one-sided interpretation of the 'facts' to support your argument. While there's nothing wrong with that per se, interpretations could be right.. or wrong. They aren't fact.

That Tomlin said he still saw Pickett as the QB1 in the grand scheme doesn't mean he wasn't being temporarily benched. It doesn't take a jump in logic or reasoning to see why he wouldn't have wanted to state things more directly given the situation. And while injury/rust likely played a part, Pickett was fully cleared by January 1. So it was possible he return against the Seahawks (missing three weeks), or at the latest against the Ravens (missing four), knocking off the rust against a team resting many of its starters.

Of course, the Steelers by then needed every win in order to keep playoff hopes alive, and as you note, Rudolph had the hot hand. But I think Jack's point is that if Pickett hadn't been so underwhelming most of the year the team would have tried getting him back in there. Since he's supposed to be the future I think they'd have rather he have the postseason experience, all else being equal.

    We signed a PUNTER.

We desperately need a Center and a RT, and we sign a punter on Day 1 of Free agency. We are so screwed at the center position, with 5 centers signing to new teams on Monday.

And just when I thought it would probably wait until before draft

They are not going to pay a guy $3M and then trade him

And your surprised? :lolol: They always jump right in on the 1st day of FA.

Well they needed a real punter so check that one off.

They are going to draft a center either Powers-Johnson in the 1st or Frazier in the 2nd.

But they got Russel Wilson who going to be the savior

    Thoughts on center.

Coleman shelton, Matt hennessy (if not for injury, I would be good to role with him).

But more so, what's wrong with drafting in the second round one of these 4?
    Screenshot_20240312_082143_Chrome.jpg

I think Jackson will go round 1 for someone desperate. But honestly someone will be there in the second. And we can take a cheap center in FA (that's still better than what we had).

I haven't seen a single mock draft without Powers-Johnson. It's not desperation. I've seen some with as many as three centers in the first. The Steelers' failure to sign any of the good veteran centers may be locking them into taking one in the first round.

I know how to make a strong, clear claim. Then I support it with facts. That isn't the same thing as presenting an opinion as fact. Some folks here don't get that.

He was not fully cleared for the game against the Seahawks, which was four weeks after his injury, not three. He was cleared for the season finale, which was five weeks after the injury. That was four games and over a month of rust and an ankle that isn't 100 percent in the rain. That, along with Tomlin's statements, is ample evidence to support my claim.

It is not only my opinion that Mason Rudolph more effectively ran the offense the last month of the 2023 season than Kenny Pickett had in nearly two full seasons prior. It is not only my opinion that Mason Rudolph was the number one quarterback in the entire NFL the last month of the season and that Kenny Pickett put up historically bad numbers the previous two seasons. His TD/pass attempt ratio was the lowest in NFL history for a QB with 500 passes. He doesn't know how to read defenses, doesn't properly go through his progressions, has terrible pocket discipline, is not very durable, and the offense under his leadership managed to score a whopping 16.8 points per game. Those are all facts. Now we can add some context to those facts (i.e. Matt Canada did him no favors as his OC, etc.), but that does not change the facts.

At this point, I feel like we're just arguing in circles so I'm pretty much done. Mason is leaving, Kenny is still here so we'd all better hope that Kenny develops. If not, we've got a few years of misery ahead while we try to find our next guy.

Yes his options have all but disappeared. If he wants to stay in the NFL he probably has to come back to the Steelers as a 3rd team QB.

    More effectively is an opinion.

No. 1 quarterback in a month is subjective based on the criteria you chose. Those three touchdowns in three games really blew you away?

Historically bad is an opinion. You are basing that one one statistical category while ignoring everything else.

He doesn't know how to read NFL defenses is an opinion, one based on dubious information.

    Pocket discipline is an opinion.

    Not very durable is subjective.

The only facts in your post were the touchdown/interception pass ratio and the team points per game, the latter of which was not entirely in his control.

At this point, you don't even know how to distinguish what is a fact from what is an opinion.
