I agree with CK, the problem is we are not in the 3-4 enough anymore and that is why a true 3-4 NT just don't fit. It is more about scheme imo than the player. Hate to spend the little bit of money we have on a 1-2 down player, would I like Poe heck yeah but the system just don't allow it.

 

That's an understatement. The Steelers are rated 32 as far as the cap. That's clowns territory, the bottom floor of the cellar. They have enough right now to sign the players they draft and for an emergency player later on if needed.

 

And they can have more with some simple moves like extending Ben and Pouncey, cutting Vance and Wilcox and bringing them back at half the price. The money is there we could free up 10-20 no problem not having the money is not why we aren't signing anyone. When was the last time the Steelers made a splash in the first couple days........crickets, that is not how the Steelers do things.

 

Mike Pounce has been released by the Dolphins but before anyone starts there will be no Wonder Twins in Pittsburgh

I agree. We don't play a true 3-4 anymore because we don't have a giant nose tackle who can take on two blockers. Hargrave can't do it, he's just not big enough. Casey Hampton was listed at 340 lbs, and probably played heavier than that. Hargrave is only 305 lbs.

A guy like Danny Shelton or Dontari Poe would be able to get us back to a true 3-4.

 

I wouldn't. I never liked him as a draft pick. I think his senior year in college he had something like 34 receptions. Looks like Tarzan but he plays like Jane.

Just a thought on this, what if we were to use this to our advantage? We get Maurkice to take less money and an extension to sign Mike. We can then let Foster and his 3.5 cap hit and use the 2.6 savings towards Mike. I know this is kinda crazy but we could hope to get the twins for 3 years, knocking down Maurkice's cap number and getting good players.......is it far fetched yeah but it could happen.

 

I for one applaud the job they are doing. I hope they keep it up for a looooong time.

 

I feel that having his twin on the team gives us unique leverage at getting him for less than another team. Just depends where his head is in terms of salary demands.

 

Or position. He has always maintained he is a center so moving him to LG might be a reach.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any news on Tre Boston, I haven't heard about him visiting any teams so far.

 

I'm searching all these different sites looking for anything on what that the Steelers might be up to, nothing but crickets so far .

 

Of course this isn't anything new, this is how the Steelers roll every year. As long as there is talent out there still I am fine cause the more time goes by the lower the price of guys are. I am keeping my hopes up for Preston Brown now and the S market still has a lot of bigger names

 

Brown no thank you. Solid run defender but he's bad in coverage.

 

What about free agent S Kenny Vaccaro?

 

I would offer him nothing but a 1 year deal, he has been injured often lately and got benched.
