I hate the Raiders and all... but Jim Plunkett has 2 rings, no HOF... while Namath is HOF just because he made a prediction and played in NY market. Yep... it's a tragedy.

As I recall, Plunkett was pretty good as a Patriot too...….

I personally think Franco is underrated.... You people gotta stop throwing up stats... Game and stats are completely different now especially for qback.......

Just checked the stats for his career and his 5 years with the Pats. He pretty much sucked, the team around him sucked as well. No winning record, only one year above 50% passing. His career pretty much mirrors that. I think that is the rap against HOF. While QB's standards were quite different in the 70's, Plunkett was never in a pro bowl or all pro. I was actually excited for his resurgence, just not HOF worthy, nor is Namath.

Wasn’t Plunkett a first pick in the draft as well? His story is great as a battler who made his way to the SB the hard way. Performance wise, probably not HOF worthy all things considered. But I also agree Namath is in the HOF for the story and the timing (AFL-NFL parity) more than his career performance.

Plunkett was the first pick in the 1971 draft, the Saints took Archie Manning with the second pick. The Steelers drafted Frank Lewis in the first round and then look at this list of rookies they brought into the defense. Jack Ham, Dwight White, Ernie Holmes, Mike Wagner and Glen Edwards.

The largest I remember was 12-14 which I think I may have incorrectly attributed to Real Steel. We are now past that.

Yes first overall pick, first Hispanic player drafted (or at least in first round). Had all the tools, just not surrounded by the talent.

Glen Edwards? Did you say Glen Edwards? I remember that time Glen Edwards rounded third base and Barry Bones couldn't throw him out at the plate and the Pirates went into a 20+ year tailspin. Oh wait, that was Sid Bream. Sorry, I get those superman legends mixed up. Never mind. :hehehe:
