Left all weekend, and I came back surprised to see that you are still trying to argue your point. Some posters have tip-toed around the question, but I am going to ask directly...what is your motivation or what are you trying to accomplish with your post. Unless you were born on another planet, you obviously know Franco is a hero/legend to most fans. If you are trolling just man up and say so. I think most of us can appreciate a good troll once in while. If you are truly a fan of the Steelers, well, I admire seeing someone dance to the beat of their own drum, but sometimes you need to recognize when the drummer is just jerking you around because you dance funny!

You may tout these other coaches speak but I'll trust the one that drafted and used Franco to win 4 super bowls in 6 years and it Franco wasn't hurt at the time maybe more. The Nigerian nightmare used to run people over. earl Campbell used to run people over. Both paid a high price with injuries. Franco played for longevity and ball security probably taught that from his hof coach that hue Jackson couldn't hold a candle to. Purcell either. You don't run for 12,000 yards in the NFL and not be a good rb. It's impossible.

Well yes. Just review some of your links that you posted. Franco is carrying defenders, not diving on the ground. I know this hurts your argument but at least be honest.

I’m guessing he’s somebody who previously got the boot and has come back under a different name?

I’m thinking more of a major beat down rather than the boot.

Perhaps. Or just another in a long line of “Look at Me” posters that pop up from time to time like whack-a-moles.

Even if what he saying is true what’s the purpose of posting it on the Steelers fan message board? He’s got a know that the vast majority of people here love Franco.
There’s very little chance that he’s going to change anybody’s opinion of a legend like Franco Harris. So my opinion is that he’s just posting this stuff to agitate/troll.
It’s probably the Watt Wacko guy. Last time he came back as tenaciousD

    I don't know why people think it's a previous poster. It's not. ;)

Did one of those clowns go out of their way to prove a Steelers legend sucked? Just trying to understand.

This guy just wants negative attention. Probably has a "scouting [team name]" username for several teams and "breaks down film" with some arbitrary litmus to prove that one of their all time greats actually stank.

It's easier to believe that it's a former member looking to stir the pot than to try to wrap the head around this out of left field post and follow up responses. It feels like the final challenge on Billy Madison where we all feel dumber for being subjected to it and may God have mercy on his soul.

See?! He’s not breaking a tackle in that picture, he’s just following a blocker! Awful!

I seem to remember back when Mendenhall played there was the criticism he avoided contact, and some comparisons with Franco were made.

So I can understand breaking down Franco’s running style, diagnosing strengths and weaknesses, identifying differences between him and others. The OP could have done that with the analysis they’ve done, and then there would be a discussion as to whether his success came at the expense of other aspects the NFL typically like in an RB.

That would be a pretty good introduction to the board IMO. And no mention of firing Tomlin or lusting for the Patriots in sight.

The bit I don’t get is the hyperbole and the blanket insistence on an odd definition of RB qualities. And going to all the trouble of in-depth analysis, but missing some of the more obvious counter arguments.

Except he's not. The whole point is noticing how soft he was. If he was fighting for extra yards, I wouldn't have even bothered to do the broken tackles chart.

You would think of all organizations, this would be the one where the fans are able to admit that one of the team's legends isn't what he was cracked up to be. Maybe if he hadn't caught the Immaculate Reception?

It’s like when Matt McCrane showed up here to post his college stats, only in reverse.

Maybe it’s Jim Brumfield, didn’t Franco knock him off the team?

I’m not sure I follow the logic here.

Unless there’s a special “bash the 70s Steelers” sub forum I haven’t seen, I wouldn’t say we’re any more critical of our HoFers than anyone else.

It’s a comment that seems more intent on baiting than anything else.

I stopped reading after he had to point out steroid use. As if the Steelers were the only team in the 70s using them.

And all of his arguments are old. I was hearing them from Steeler haters in the 70s while Franco was still playing.

I'm sure Franco can't sleep at night staring at his 4 SB rings, SB MVP, and HOF jacket knowing what a fraud he is.

This guy reminds me of the guy from Stillers.com who used to rant how Jason Gildon's (at the time) team RECORD for career sacks was all due to luck and lazy, coverage/missed blocks. A meme I'll admit was funny at least.
