But would you put him (or someone in his mold) ahead of Carey Davis or David Johnson?

 

Absolutely.

 

I'd take none of them. I would invest in a true blocking FB like Vontae Leach or Lorenzo Neal when he was still playing.

 

Of course, it's a no-brainer. But the Steelers have made their choice. Again and again...

 

As we can see, Tomlin and BA had everything to do with it. As Cowher kept the guy around and trusted in him, gave him his start only to be shot down by Tomlin and BA and Ben because they wanted to go in a passing team direction. No use for a fullback. They also cut Carey Davis too. BA's passing philosophy.

 

Alternatively, he was a fringe player, and he was cut. You're being kind of melodramatic here. If they cut Davis, Summers and Kuhn all on the same day then that'a fair enough. But Kuhn was trying to make the squad when there were a number of other RBs in the frame as well.

 

I think that cutting Kuhn was a mistake; he fits in the passing offense well. He can catch passes out of the backfield and block. D Johnson is a better route runner, but Kuhn is better at everything else IMO.

Summers was bad; Carey Davis was horrible at everything and a waste of a roster spot. A bad tight end with SOME blocking skills replaced him as an upgrade.
