It was OPI. It's just that simple.

Pickens, pushed, and gained separation as a result of the push.

Absolutely the correct call regardless of what a former ref says.

When contact is marginal, refs often let players play, whether in offense or defense... This was not the case on this play

Yes He did, but then call it on everyone. It's not that it wasn't....it's that they never call it equally. Hell Gronk, and mister mustache in KC would have half the catches they make if they got called properly, and You can take away a bunch from everyone if they did.

You could say that about any penalty. Ben didn't get the calls Brady did. Harrison never got obvious holding calls. Neither does Watt.

Bottomline is Pickens pushed. The flag was thrown.

They all push off....all of them. They usually don't throw it unless it's a full extension of the arms, or you reach and grab/ pull down the DB/coverage man.
Again I'm not saying it wasn't OPI....but just in that game I seen more that wasn't called

    I’ve seen more as well

    But he created movement

    It wasn’t incidental

Now if we are arguing the penalty should be called more often then ok

The bigger point is Pickens didn’t need to do it

    Porter doesn’t need to hold

    Brady didn’t need to cheat

I didn’t need to kill my first wife

Actually I was acquitted of that but moving along

Come on dude....You are comparing a DB getting pushed to a DB being shoved to the ground. LoL. In that SB He shoved the DB to the ground.

That's exactly what I'm getting at. Don't throw it now, and 4 plays later somehow it's OK.

Please go back and watch the Darrell Jackson play. He absolutely did NOT shove anyone to the ground.

Meh, hands weren't extended to get any sort of separation imo. Just a hands battle Pickens won that the ref should've kept his flag in his pocket

No I was being smart a$$, but if You can't see the full extention of the arms here compared to Sunday. We'll I don't know what to say....not only did He fully extend His arms He stopped the DB cold, and pushed Himself forward in Seattle SB.

Unless the arm is extended, or You are pulling the DB/coverage man back it's all fair game. Now look at the SB with Seattle.....full extended arms....that will be called every time

It’s not so much the extension as much as the separation and body movement

If one body doesn’t move but the other one does due to the push it’s a penalty

Not by they way they coach. All wrs/pass catchers are shown ways to create separation, and pushing is one of them,,but they are taught not to extend the arms so as not to be called. I never played Wr, but I did DB....so we were taught what to look for. Like hanging on to whatever arm that they use, and when they bring it back....come with it. Refs won't see either unless the arms are fully extended. Again. I agree that it's OPI.....I just disagree with don't throw that one, and yet let all the others go throughout the game. Unless it's a over extention, or a clear grasping

At least you admit that officiating is bias. That’s why I say it shouldn’t have been OPI. I see players all time with that slight separation technique and get away with it. Often times it depends on the team and the game situation. JMHO.

It was technically OPI but if you are calling that every single play ever has to have a flag
It was an exceptionally harsh penalty

Two days removed from a call that didn't cost the Steelers a win and I don't give two f**ks if it was or wasn't P.I. but all that most fans want from the officiating is consistency and there lies the problem, it is anything but.
