Former NFL QB Ryan Mallett drowns in Florida

RIP.

RIP currents this year have claimed at least 6 lives recently down in the Florida panhandle.

Anyone going to the beach should pay attention to the flags.

 

I believe it’s actually over a dozen now. Rip tides are no joke. Do not try to swim against once. Swim horizontally and you might survive

 

He played for My Razorbacks, and He also played for My High school rivalry Texas High. RIP

 

Mallett was stuck on a sandbar and tried to swim back to shore. I feel bad for his family. I remember when we absolutely had to win a late December game to make the playoffs and Mallett lit us up in a game that eliminated us from a playoff spot.

 

He lit us up or did it have more to do with him throwing zero interceptions while our #7 threw multiple?

 

Mallett was 28-41, 274 yards and a TD with no picks. DeAngelo Williams had a good game for us with 100 yards rushing and 2 TD's but Ben's 2 picks hurt us that game.

 

I got caught in one in California back in the 90's. I swam towards the shore and make about 2 feet progress and the next wave would take me 5 or 6 feet backwards. It was pretty terrifying when I got beyond Manhattan Beach pier. After about 3 minutes I realized I needed to swim parallel to the shore. Those signs are not to be ignored and those flags are true warnings. I never ignore them anymore. Lifeguard gave me a well deserved tongue lashing.

 

People in Florida are ignoring the flags and even going so far as to berate the lifeguards
