Gurley just agreed to a 4 year 60 mill contract with 45 guaranteed. That’s 15 a year. Bell will get a shot at his 17+ from someone. Gurley is not as dynamic, is not used like a wr like bell and has had major surgery on his knee, plus has only been good for two years.

My prediction is there will be trend to draft rbs early in drafts and every 4-5 years. For as many McCoys, ,Gore’s and possibly Bell (who I think will be productive til early thirties), there will be plenty that fall off a cliff at 28 and teams will suffer in cap hell.

With Hunt and Kamara looking for long term commitments in the next two years, value for rbs will only shoot up from here.

    Thoughts?

Steelers made a good offer that was comparable to what Gurley just got. Steelers did all they could do IMHO.

Bell has been injured 4 out of 5 his seasons, 2 busted knees, 1 suspension, obvious decline in speed and defenses figuring out his running style.

    Steelers did the right thing

We'll be arguing about Bell 10 years from now, long after he's retired.

Well, Bell did what he set out to do... raise the value for rb's. I just hoped, that it would've worked out for him and the Steelers. But overall ... Mission Accomplished!

Gurley has injury history as well and has had ONE GREAT SEASON. He was good his rookie yr but not great. He looked terrible the year before last and he also has bad knees.. and he never had barry
Gurley has had 1 great season, a very bad season that was worse than any season bell had, and a pretty good rookie season with a injury history as well.... so how was he worth 35 more million than bell guranteed?

Jumbo, Bell is not getting more than Gurley next year, mark my word. He may not be as dynamic a WR as you say, but Gurley did have more receiving yards on less catches last year. He also had more rushing yards and touchdowns than Bell. Gurley is three years younger than Bell and will probably be around longer. We'll see what happens. He deserved whatever he gets.

But in reference to bell he wont get more but you think Gurley is 35 million gurnateed money better than bell? The answer is NO. And it's funny how with all that you just said about stats, leveon was still first team all pro and voted by peers the best rb in the NFL and a top 5 player. Hmmm

And you all miss the point. Bell's point was the Steelers werent giving him the guranteed dollars he knows he can get elsewhere. How is he wrong for that when a guy who isnt better than him just got 45?

It's an extension so it's a 6 year deal. He had 2 years left so it's like 11 per not 15. Rams basically watched the Steelers and said we aren't going thru this with Gurley especially with tags only going to go up. Steelers are going to pay Bell close to 30 mill for last two seasons so why wouldnt they give him 45 gtd last year? Their offer last year was fair. Bell will make more money than Gurley long run and also proves the Steelers were right. Gurley doesn't believe Bell is going to drastically change the market next off-season.

Bell holds all the cards for his own future right now...depending on the season he has. Will he be his own worst enemy? If I had to put money on it, I say yes.

$45 mill guaranteed vs. $10 mill guaranteed.

That's the difference between the two deals. Rooneys are trying to sell half truths with the 5 year, $70 mill reported offering. The non-guaranteed $ is meaningless, as they can dump it at any time. Gurley's guaranteed $ is 450% more than Bells.

The consensus here is that the Rams handled their situation correctly and the Steelers did not. How this consensus came to be is something I personally have not the foggiest. Apple's to oranges here in more ways than one.

What the Rams accomplished was resetting the Running Back market and indirectly changed the NFL forever. Given the fact that Gurley's contract is now roughly $15 million a year, look for players like Zeke and Barkley (more than likely) to increase this even more.

In short? Feature backs now could be too expensive for some, if not many teams. Look for more commitee based approaches in the future unless the league exponentially increases the cap within the next year or two.

How is it 15 mill per? It's a 4 year extension on 2 years he had left where he was making peanuts. He's an UFA in 2024. It's basically a 6 year deal and 11 mill per.

Why are you so hung up on guaranteed money?
I don’t know why you think Bell deserves any guaranteed money with his injury history and his suspensions for drugs? What guarantees to the Steelers get?
